Refilling the cooling system woes

I've decided today was an excellent day to clean the cooling system on my S2. Unfortunately I emptied it and do not have the Bible to hand and can not fill it back up. I reconnected the bottom pipe to the engine and refilled via the swirl pot but it seems like no where near the amount of water has gone in that there needs to be. I guess there is an air pocket somewhere. Any suggestions?

There is a bleed valve on the top L/H corner of the rad, keep the engine running as you top it up and make sure the heater is on .
