I have been using the S all week, roof down enjoying the sun , but have noticed an annoying rattle from the exhaust. This occurs during acceleration and around 2500 rpm. I have checked under the car and the rubber doughnut mountings that are used to secure the exhaust to the chassis are worn out, so it is metal on metal. Wiggling the tail pipe with the engine running results in clanging noises from these mounts.

I am hoping this is the fault, and not broken baffles/exhaust on the way out.

Anybody know where I get new rubber exhaust mountings to hopefully cure the problem ?

I had a similar problem, but found out that it was a small metal plate that the serial number was stamped on that had broken it's weld. This was welded to the bottom of the silencing box. Mine didn't clank though when rocked.

The rubber exhaust mount rubbers are 65p from your local TVR dealer. I'm off to pick up some from Hexham Horseless Carriages this weekend.

Where are you loacted?

Those rubber mounts sound cheap. I have checked under the car and I think I just need the rubber mount for the tail pipe connection to the chassis. I live in Letchworth, Herts by the way.

I have thumped the exhaust all along its length with the engine running, and it seems solid, so I hope it is intact as I don't fancy getting a new one yet.

Cheers

I'm getting a similar sound from my exaust. Sounds like a cemnt mixer with a turbo attached. Noise comes in at start up and intermittently comes and goes. Drives me mad!! Have had the centre box opened up, the baffles (cones) re-welded into place... made no difference.

I'm getting the chassis srtipped treated and waxoiled and the garage think it may be the heat shields or some rivets on the exhaust somewhere. I'll let you know if this sorts the problem.

Pookie.

Look for small plates that have come off. I am replacing the rubber mounts next Saturday justto be on the safe side.
