Hi

I am looking to make my first purchase of a TVR and like the look of the S series. Problem is whilst I am not a novice in knowing what to look for when buying a car I was wondering if there is a web site or if anyone can give me any pointers as to what I should be looking out for with the S Series! I need to strike while the iron is hot as my wife has given me the thumbs up!!!

Check out

Get the bible - full of useful info

Search through the forum here there's lots of info.

One thing I would say is check the chassis carefully - although the body is fibreglass the chassis is prone to problems on the outriggers and it's not easy top check. They are all now getting to the age where this is starting to become a common problem. It's fixable but budget on at least £1000 to fix it, possibly more depending on how bad it is. Rear trailing arms are also prone to rust and expensive to fix.

But it's not all doom and gloom - find a good un and you'll be grinning from ear to ear

Doddze,

Firstly, tkae the advice that's been posted already... it's also worth looking through the S series forum on here for more information...

Condition, condition, condition when buying an S.. I went looking for a blue one with a magnolia interior... and bought a red one with a grey interior!

Also, as you live in Essex... come along to the Mid-Essex meet (second Sunday of the month).. speak to a few owners. I live in Chelmsford, so if you're local you're always welcome to drop me a line and come out for a blat.

Do it, Do it, Do it, Do it....

Am I repeating myself...?

Anything you could ever ask about the 'S' has already been asked...

Click on Search Forums....

Type the words...

Pick the S forum...

There lies the font of all knowledge...

It took me 4 days of trawling through...

LOOK AT & DRIVE as many S's as you can....

No 2 are the same. Even when they are parked up.

Happy hunting....

As a recent owner of my first S I trawled through the forum pages and found loads of excellent advice.

My recent thread 'potential new owner' recieved lots of helpful replies.

For what it's worth my opinion is do not worry about milage but ensure that the car has been carefully looked after with lots of history etc. I looked at about a dozen or so cars and ironically ended buying the first one I looked at. It had about 100k on the clock but wasin VG condition and hasn't skipped a beat since I bought it.
As has been previously stated.. chassis, chassis, chassis is the achilies heel on these so get the car you like scrutinised by someone who is familiar with the mark.

Finally.. I would say that in terms of enjoyment and lookig forward to going for a drive it is the best car I have owned!!

Do it!! You will have the typical silly grin on youface every time you start her up!

Good luck.

Pookie.

couldn't agree with this more. Buy on condition more than anything else. I also wanted blue with magnolia (I actually wanted Mrs Ted's car) and ended up with grey with grey interior! I wanted a purple or blue Chimaera with magnolia and ended up with Cooper Green with biscuit!

We all wanted Mrs Teds car shnozz ! but I managed to duplicate it !
Couple of other points to look out for ,dropped doors ,the hinge repairs can be bit of a job , and make sure that the leading edge of the bonnet when opened does not touch the ground , this could mean worn shocks ,springs or wrong tyre pressure.
Good luck , you won't regret it !
