As expected I have hit a bit of trouble in my first week of ownership, but I don't think it's anything major. The car is losing power/mis-firing and bunny hopping. It seems to be getting more frequent. It happened once when i drove it back from where i picked it up but tonight i could barely go a few hundred yards without losing power. Rob told me when i picked it up that he has new HT leads on order as he didn't like the ones installed, well 2 of them anyway. Could this be the cause, or possibly dirty spark plugs or both or something else??? Any help for the novice is well appreciated???

Sorry...I'm a complete dunce...but as I have yet to get my copy of Steve Heath's bible i have no idea what the TP is, how much to replace, or whether I have to order from TVR etc etc. (I did see a recent thread where someone said they disconected and it didn't mis-fire). - Oh by the way can someone tell me how to wipe my arse?!!

The throttle pot is a feedback variable resistor that tells the engine management system how hard the throttle is going. However - if the pot get's knackered it feeds back duff information to the car's brain and either starves or floods it with fuel.

As you'll discover if you do a search through the archive of this forum there are dozens of threads on this subject (including some that will help you locate it in the engine bay). It's a ford part - so if you go along to your local ford parts dept, and ask for a throttle pot for a 2.9 EFI engine they should have what you're looking for (they cost about £50 - absolute burglary). Try cleaning the connector before replacing the pot as I think this can give similar symptoms to the device itself being knackered.

Enjoy your new car - you've bought a dream,

WG

Teh ford part is £50, but there is a cerbie one that fits on TVRbitz for £20.
