The ultimate question! - probably not!??
Discussion
Hi
The ultimate question?? well maybe it is or maybe it isn't.........but all answers will be greatly appreciated. Should I buy an S1, S2 or S3??? I realise that a lot of the "models" merged... but as a new purchaser I am trying to get my head round the pros and cons of all the models.. All advice appreciated..... am now sure it is not a matter of if I buy one,......... but which one!!
If you are really tall you should go for the S3 as it has longer doors, but if not just get the best you can afford. I would tend to look at all three and just pick a car that feels right for you, whichever you choose you will not be disapointed! The most important thing is the condition of the car, the actual model is not so imprtant, although the S3 also has the better mirrors and the later style dash, all IMHO

I'm not tall so it is not an issue. I will probably be looking to take her out in the wet every now and then but not high mleage. I am worried that if iI get an S1 in the wet that she could suffer because of no inner arches.... Don't mind paying more for an S2 or S3 if it makes a difference!! To be honest just don't want to buy a shagger!....

When I bought mine... did all the research on what to look for then drew up a short list:-
Bonnet air vent bulge a must
2.9 engine
Not a fan of the S3 dash
S3 longer doors good idea...
Ended up looking at just S2's... mind you have seen a few S3's with air vent bulge since..
At the end of the day its what you like

IMHO TVR only made the car better through its few years of development. Therefore you should buy an S4 if you can find one.If you look at a few ,[as you should ]you will spot the dogs out there. Most things are sortable even the dreaded chassis, but this should be reflected in the price. How deep are you pockets , how long do you intend to keep the car? The answer to these questions are just as important in making your choice.
No slight intended to owners of earlyer cars
they are all special and will put a smile on your face and keep it there.
If your not far from Offord your not far from me ,come and have a look at a very average S if you want.

With regards to the bonnet bulge ........ don't they all have an intake (excuse my ignorance)?
No, some of the later cars have Chimera style slits down the side of the bonnet instead.
As said above, the cars get better with development. That said I do prefer the S1/S2 style dash and I'm small so I can get in with the shorter doors. But I went for a good S3 in the end.
