Discussion
I've heard of a few S series cars that have had the 24v V6 cosworth engine fitted.
Just wondering what power they are producing ? and how quick are they ?
I know the std 24v cossie lump puts out about 200bhp and 200lbft, so they must be around 200bhp per tonne ? and that means a pritty rapid car !
Can the "S" cope with this power ?
i would be very interested in any details anyone has about the conversion. (may even atempt it myself oneday, although i would need to get an S first)
Thanks in advance for any info.

GBGaffer (graham) has a cossie S. Its very rapid - or certainly feels it from the passenger seat. In fairness grahams cossie engine is also fairly special blueprinted etc...
graham used an S4 as his "base" car. This had 2 significant advantages. 1. it has rear discs as standard. 2. It has a wider track - the chassis of the V8.
I looked at doing this myself with my old S but without the above factors it added yet more costs to the stopping and handling department of an already expensive project. Couple that with the fact graham is now struggling to get hold of some parts for the engine as Ford no longer sell them and I think my advice would be buy a V8S/Chim/Griff
grahams car is truly special, and I for one adore it, but its a considerable effort to go to if its just performance you are chasing

Hi All,
Just got the 'S4C(osworth) back following the engine rebuild
The engine is still very tight, and limited to short shifting at 4500 ish for the first 500 mls or so, but even so I had a little play with a Ferrari on the way back and he wasn't getting away from me
The question of power output is pretty debateable, and difficult to establish unless you dyno the engine. I know from a rolling road set up session we were getting 220ish at the wheels, but even with two 'pie friendly' blokes sitting on the boot we were getting a lot of wheelspin.
The guys at Peninsula think the engine is pushing out about 260bhp and I know from a couple of track sessions the car will stay with a 5.0L Griff. The same engine was used in the Pro-sport 3000 series and in that guise was pushing out 300ish. Chris from Streber motorsport is building up a twin turbo version of the Cosworth to drop into a 4WD Marcos
, and he is expecting to see 350 ish.
As a platform the S4 is good, but needs bigger brakes, and a good diff. We tore the old diff apart quite quickly, but it was clonking a bit from the days when the car had the old 2.9, and the rebuilt diff is a smooth as silk.
The I haven't tried to record 0-60 times but it feels fairly quick and top end is limited by the S housebrick-like aerodynamics, although I have seen 150ish (indicated) with the roof off an an autobahn in Germany. I suspect that fairing the headlamps and leaving the lid on would see 160+.
Would I do it again - NO, do I like the car - YES
Cheers
Graham
PS Shnozz - I didn't realise our little run had such an effect on you!

might have been short but it was sweet mate! Loved the whole concept of your car, it looks the nuts and goes like stink. More to the point, its hugely individual and a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing. Be fantastic to see an S p*ssing off a 5 litre griff on the track

[Hearingaidmodeon]What's that you say Harry
[Hearingaidmodeoff] How's your rocketship coming on? What has Mark been able to wring out of it?
Shnozz et al, sorry haven't been around much recently, been away on the dreaded travels, (China and Russia) all in the last couple of weeks. I'd love to get together for a drink, but need to let the liver recover. Maybe early next month - Oh b*gg*r - just remembered an upcoming sailing event - more liver damage! I'll try and get to the next Hants meet.
See you all soon
Cheers
