Hi all,
does anyone have this problem or more importantly know how to fix it as it is doing my head in having to keep stopping and shutting the thing!

Maybe it's the bonnet pull. This might help... in my S1, when I have opened the bonnet I have to push real hard to get the pull way back in to the original (closed) position. If not, it won't lock entirely and the bonnet will keep popping open.

cheers

sounds to me like the bonnet catches need adjustment. Its a very unscientific process and I had to do it on my S a few times before it was right. the catches themselves can move back and forward about an inch from the point at which they are attached to the underside of the bonnet. simply undo the bolts, move it slightly and semi tighten it back up to see it its a better "fit" when closed. give it a bit of a tug and see if it comes up or stays put..

You can also alter the height of the pin by loosening the nut within the bonnet recess and unscrewing or screwing up the pin - it has a slot in it for that reason. Screw in to bring the bonnet closer to the bodywork. I did this last weekend on mine (again!!) to cure the same problem . . . I hope . . so far so good

ah yes - good point. forgot bought that even though that made as much of a difference as moving the actual springs a few mm's...

Had same thing - definately bonnet alignment, only took me 3 weekends to finally get the correct alignment (my windscreen wipers had also been grinding away at my lovely newly sprayed bonnet )

Had the very same problem a few days after buting miy S3!

The best advice I recieved on PH was to place a piece of masking tape over the bonnet catch socket after opening the bonnet. Close the bonnet gently such that the catch leaves an oily mark on the tape. This should give you an idea in which way the catch is mis-aligned to the socket. If the mark is too near the front of the car the catches will 'pop'. Too near the widscreen and the bonnet will be difficult to open. Takes a few adjustments of the catches to get it right but it can be done quite easily.:

FYI when driving over a large bump at any speed the bonnet will still 'pop' so you still have to pull over and push down the relevent side.

Hope that helps.

Good luck,

Pookie.

Soory about the typo's in the previous message.

Either I am rather illiterate or a bit pissed!

I'll leave you to make your minds up on which is most likely!!
