For info....

Made to Jaguar quality standards and as fitted to the US spec Jaguar XJS, comes painted but can be re-painted of course. Ordinary replaceable bulbs, not LED.

Only £18 plus P&P.

Looks good on the S (IMHO) and is an inexpensive safety item. Only 3 holes required to fit but you may find that your boot lid is a bit too thick for the threaded studs but you can use these as locating studs and drill two new holes to mount with self tappers into the underside of the lamp(taking care not to drill into the wiring and bulb holders). The lamp has a good rubber mounting gasket included so it should never leak. A nice OE quality lamp.

Qtr of the way down the "More Lights" page titled "HIGH LEVEL REAR LIGHT Boot Mounted Made to Jaguar quality standards"

I fitted mine in approx 15 mins at the weekend.

Nice idea - but I thought the purpose of these was so your brakes could be seen by the car behind the car behind you - given the boot of the S is so low is this not a bit of an excercise in futility?

I'd still like to see how it looks though....

Seeing that the S series has very low lights when compared to the vehicle they were originally designed for (Mk3 & 4 Escort), I'd imagine that the extra height of the additional high level brake light to be useful for gaining the attention of the driver behind when moving slowly in traffic, being more at eye level than the rear lights which may possibly even be out of sight to those who follow too closely.

It's a well made inexpensive unit & doesn't really spoils the lines of the car and may just avoid a rear end nudge which in a car without proper bumpers may suffer more damage than other production cars if hit from behind.

Just my humble opinion...

Must admit I contemplated something similar... looked at the current Jag XK8 jobbie... but never got round to it...

I found the high level brake lights as used on the Saab 900 to be very suitable for the S-series. Both since it has modern & good functionality and IMHO looks quite 'professional' when mounted between the boot and the rear window. For proper mounting, it does however require a fair bit of DIY work. E-mail me for picture & details.

If my GRP skills were better than non existant then I considered cutting and mounting an LED system into the boot at one time.

It was also the concept of messing with Escort bulb holders that put me off...

It'd be very interested to see a picture of the finished article.

IIRC there was a thread a while back (one of those "you'll never guess" ones) about someone getting the factory to fit a high-level brake light, but can't remember which model or who it was...

I need to take it off again and colour code it but I'll post some photos after I'm done.

I already had the wiring in place which was why it took only 15mins, just 3 holes to drill two for mounts and one for the cable.

Johno's Dad has one of these made by TVR IIRC on his Chimaera.

Cheers,
