Just received the Leven Windscreen Washer Kit (designed to replace the loop system on Griffith or Chimaera) - £13.50 from their special offers flyer.

Anyone fitted one to an S yet or will I be the first?

What does it entail Roy, I have the newer Griff/Chim wiper loop system and would be interested to know what can be improved. I must admit my system works great but always looking to improve the S, If possible post pics when fitted please.

Cheers

Mike

"Designed to replace the plastic loop washer pipe with 3 fully adjustable jets mounted in a compact unit on the wiper arm. Very tidy and works much better."
Instead of the loop, there is a small black box (2cm x 2cm) which clamps to the wiper arm. Each box has three nozzles, two pointed towards each end of the blade and one straight down on to the glass.

I plan to leave the existing surface mounted nozzle in place and run the tubing under the bonnet to meet at a T-piece mounted on the bulkhead below.

Cannot see this on the Leven site. Was it a limited time offer Roy?

The washer kit has only just become available again, and we have not had chance to update the web site. For those interested e-mail us and we will send the fitting instructions which has photos. Please remember this has been designed primarily for the Griffith & Chimaera so a few mods may be required to fit other models. If we told of the mods we may be able to incorporate them so all info will be usefull. However at £13.50 it has got to be worth a try!

I have fitted the Leven units to my S2, replacing the (crap) fixed
nozzle system. The new nozzles work very well, just got to sort out the
pipework, which involves much longer tubes than supplied by Leven (which are rubber, so may be crushed in the bonnet shut) and a T-piece mounted on the bulkhead under the bonnet.
The original surface mounted nozzle head system can be left in place.

The pipework will probably end up looking something like V8Smith's

I replaced my washer jets with one from Halfords and it has a much better spray effect. Just the standard bulkhead mounted jobbie.

I also shortened my pipe a bit to the washer jet and it decreases the pressure drop from the pump.

My only reservation with the Leven kits is water pressure, wouldnt they need a decent pressure, we all know the 'S' cars have a poor system! I have the later Grif/Chim set up with the loop spray bars, using a T piece where the old nozzle was located, it was really easy to fit. Only cost me about £5 IIRC and now delivers water to the entire screen and works very well, would be interested to see if the leven kit is better.

Yes, I cut down the rather long length of pipe on my car to reduce the amount of pressure drop and it worked well.

I find the Halfords replacement jet very good as it sprays a fan of water both left and right of the screen rather than the pathetic original that squirted a single jet each side.

Cost about £3 IIRC and took 2 minutes to fit.

Looking at that photo and knowing the pressure I get from my washers, I think the Loop system will be better IMHO.

It takes a bit of pumping , but at least the water gets on to the screen. Probably not worth changing your loops for though.

My thoughts exactly, but probably worth getting if you still have the original squirter system?? I got mine by accident, I bought new wiper arms from TVR Power and they came with the Loop system already on! Just had to buy a little tube and a T piece.

Yes, I think so. I also changed the pipe from the pump to the bulkhead at the same time (v.difficult to get at on S2 - I drilled out the original spray head from above), which was very manky after 14 years faithless service.
