Hi All,

Can anybody tell me what gearbox the S series (non V8) uses? I assume that it is a Ford Box and gather that it is a Five speeder. This I think narrows it down to a Type 9 or Borg Warner T5. As they changed to the SD1 box for the V8S I am guessing that the Type 9 was used as the T5 would have been a better choice for the V8.

The Type 9 was used in many Sierras and so this too would tie in.

If nobody knows the answer perhaps somebody has a picture of the gearbox they could email to me as I could probably recognise it from that.

Thank you all in advance.

Sean

Cheers,

Found a site stating it was a Type N or MT75. Never heard of a type N but the MT75 was a possibility though Ford themselves only fitted it to cars from the end of 1988 onwards so I had pretty much rulled that out too!

There are various pictures of my gearbox when I took it out of my old s3 a couple of years ago on this website... www.cwork.nildram.co.uk/mark/cars/tvr/steveheath/

It's a type 9 (or N).

Regards,

Mark

You've chosen an S because it has a sierra gearbox...?

Sorry for the delay in replyng but been very busy. In fact I am presently sitting in a hotel in Iceland! The other day my wife had an interview near Gatwick. I drove her there and then had a bit of time to kill so I parked up outside Austec and listened to the TVR music comming from the rolling road! How sad is that!!

Anyway I cannot answer the previous question as many TVR owners may accuse me of sacrallidge (I know I can´t spell)as I plan to build a special! I do not want to reveal anymore than that but rest assured when it is done I will be attending meets! Also people will only be allowed to burn me at the stake after they have experienced driving it and can honestly say they are not impressed! Alternatively if I am not impressed I will burn myself at the stake and you will see me on thew six O´clock news!!!

If anybody lives in the Gatwick area and would like to take me for a spin and let me look over their car/measure up then they may get more info but will be sworn to secrecy!!

Cheers,

Sean
