Has anyone outed their EFi on a 2.9 V6 and gone for carbs instead, could be more reliable and possibly easier for DIY tuning?

Presumably, this means a new inlet manifold as this houses the injectors on the EFi system. What about engine management as some of the ignition timing would still be controlled by the ECU but there would be no control over the fuelling as there was previously with injectors.

Could one also do away with the ECU?

here's a pic of GBgaffer's lovely S Cosworth with carbs. Nice.

I contemplated a cossie 24v unit in mine but the consensus was that it is a lot of work and may not even go in an S2 because the chassis is narrower than later models. So, I went for a refurb and a skimmed head and polished ports.

GBgaffers' does look superb. Is his a later S then?

I'm rather keen on outing the less reliable EFi on mine and putting in some nice carbs but it would be nice to get a list of the pros and cons first. I guess inlet manifold and carb height versus available space is the first issue. Then the ECU and electrical bits.

yeah, its an S4 so wider track too. The bonnet "hump" needed adding another inch or so on top to allow teh carbs to fit.

The dealer that undertook a lot of the work for Graham is ignoring my e-mail about being the major player in the same conversion for Claire's S.

I am considering having an all new engine management system put in. Crank sensors, no dizzy, twin coil pack etc. Will cost a fair bit though, so not any time soon.

How does the V8 fit into an earlier S?

Is there space in the chassis and body?

Does the gearbox mate?

Any electrical considerations, such as doing away with the ECU if a V8 with carbs?

New manifolds of course but can the same system be used?

The V8 S has a wider track and a lot of cross bracing along the chassis to deal with the increased power from the V8. The exhaust system is different as is the gear box. You'd be better off buying a V8S straight off rather than trying to shoehorn on in.

That's very neat!

What model S is this fitted in?
