How high do you rev?
Discussion
Just occurred to me as I was driving home last night when I was passed by a griff giving it some serious welly that I dont get anywhere near the rev limiter on my car - EVER.
On a blast under a tunnel, I may give it up to 4.5k or so but this produces the desired aural effect so why go higher?
In fact the only time it has been up to the limiter in the last year was when it was rolling roaded at austec a few months back...
Now i'm no ponce, and I hustle the thing around pretty quickly where conditions allow, but there seems plenty torque low down enough to not need to scream the engine.
I'm also of the opinion that it will last longer this way.
Do my views have any scientific backing?

Nope...
Its like having a big hill outside your house...And you only use the bottom half to ride down on your Go-Kart...You wouldn't want to go right to the top every time but its great when you do...
Thats the Scientific theory..

I don't make a habbit of touching the limiter, but I'm not scared of doing it.
How are the rev limiters set?
I seem to recall when mine was rolling roaded that it hit over 6200, wheras many seem to be set lower than 5800?
I guess I'm just worried that if mine has been dabbled with in the past to increase the rev capacity without thought to the longevity of the engine...

engine cut out, back in, out ,back in,out , back in![]()
is that how the rev limiter works then?
scary stuff!
Not as bad as it sounds, it just cuts down the revs for a fraction of a second. It's just like a mis-fire. If you park your car and floor the gas pedal (with a hot engine), you'll see what it does if you hold it there for a few seconds. I have never had mine cut in whilst driving but I did have some muck in the fuel once so I pulled over and did this and noticed that the rev limiter worked. The car ran superbly after!
