Choosing the loudest exhaust.

You have a car with the potential to sound fantastic so you may as well hear it .....right?

Therefore, who has the loudest exhaust?

Was a decibel comparison made at the S Club Heaven meet, and if so, which make was the loudest?

Cost is also an important factor, with a budget of £400ish.

Opinions much appreciated.

There wasn't an official loudest exhaust comp at S Club...

But IMHO and not necessarily in your budget but the loudest was the silver S2 with the Cossie engine in it..

You could drop him a mail and ask what exhaust he has..

simplest and cheapest is to:
1)Remove exhaust
2)Open the silencer and remove baffles and perforated tubes
3)replace with SS straight-throughs
4)replace silencer
I had this done and the sound is devasting with plenty of snap pop and crackle. Cost:
Labour--2 to 3 hours
SS tubes about £30
I paid a local engineeribg firm £120 +VAT. Mole Valley quoted me £420 for the same job.

I may be able to extend the budget a bit for the right system and I'm after spending the money on a system I''ll be happy with and for me the ideal will be something that sounds nice and rumbling at idle speed and roarty all through the revs ...if possible. A real deep throbbing V8 like sound (from a V6) would be most appealing to my ears!

Right the sensible reply...

Both Farmeryellow and Mgaut have had after market V8 split pipe systems fitted, They both give the sound you are after...

Wildfire has had a straight through system fitted with reduced bore for back pressure..Good sound

I've had the Peninsula V6 version Stainless Sports fitted also very good ( not as deep sounding as the larger bore V8 Splits IMHO) but still very loud Podie has the same or very similar AFAIK..

Thanks Magnus, yes I suppose I could replace the front oval silencer with straight pipes and the same in the rear box too. You're in Sussex aren't you, would you mind me asking who did this for you and where they are located? I'm only in Kent so not far for me.

If you just want volume, take out your baffles.

IIRC, Podie's exhaust is 127.7 dB. That's pretty damn loud. Without spending any extra money, you could go for this. He has baffles in it, and therefore doesn't lose any performance.

I dont know about best sounding...........but Ive heard his is the loudest V6.

Ive heard a few sports exhaust pipes on the V6 and Dave Bridges gives a very nice sound, a bit higher pitched than the V8 but very nice.

Mine has stainless manifolds, de-cat and sports system from ACT (with the baffles still in it).

I want great thundering burbling rumbling V sounds, I don't care if my ears bleed after 10 miles .....I'll wear earplugs!

Mine used to sound much nicer, it now sounds like a Volvo 760 with a hole in the rear box.

I can vouch for that. Dave Bridge has the Penninsula System IIRC. They have the seperate pipes rather than the twin middle pipes. They are straight through IIRC.

Sorry Dave, missed that as I was replying to the posting whilst you were also.

I noticed Farmeryellow has the system with the rear pipes spaced apart like the V8 versions. I heard that this system sounds nice on the V6. Were they the V8 systems adapted to the V6?

I'm not sure what to do now, mine is in good nick except the failed baffles and a very small split in the front bottom edge of the rear box. Oh and a couple of scrapes and dents of course!

But I think I'd like to have a larger diameter system to give me that lower V8 sound-a-like rumble & roar.

No problem--Godfrey Engineering are in Heathfield (01435 865999) but the arrangement is made through Hart Motor Services down the road from GE. Their number is 01435 867716 ask for Bob. Bob will remove your exhaust and take it to GE who will do the job according to your wishes(you might want only a part of the perforated tubes replacing--the full Monty is definitely LOUD) then bob replaces your exhaust--easy peasy--why pay more for essentially the same thing?

Many thanks, that's good to know and I'll hang on top the contact numbers as if I decide to recycle my existing system then I'd like to go for a company who has experience with similar systems rather than just a company who make railings and swimming pool handrail like those local to me!
