Anyway of doing this without taking the bonnet off or sitting in the engine bay?

Just about. If you pick the front of the car up by about 4" you can open the bonnet almost vertical. I have a couple of short bits of 2-by-4 bolted together to form a mini ramp specially for this. If you stand in the gap immediately behind the bonnet and reach over the top of the rad you can get at the bolts holding the badge on. Make sure you don't scrape the front of the bonnet on the ground while you do this, put some carpet or something under the front edge to protect it.

Chris i got mine of by using a long reach extension saved any need to raise the car

On my back? Oh well I'll have to have a closer look at it. I don't think I have the necesssary sockets. I may take a trip to Halfords or machine mart at lunch time.

I took off the bonnet badge yesterday to clean it up.... just opened the bonnet ... didn't raise the car or anything.. just enough room to get a socket set in there and undo it just by leaning in over the front wheel.... 5 minute job
