Right, how exactly do I set off car alarms?

I have the sports pipes, but need advice from the master

There are certain factors that help... small towns with buildings close to the road help... and when it's quiet (lie 6am!) ... ensure you are in a lower gear than you need to be (2nd instead fo 3rd for example)... and then hold it just where it makes the most noise, blat.. ease off... blat.. ease off... feather the throttle... pop... pop... wooo-wooo-wooo

I was doing my best not to set of car alarms at 06:45 this morning as I left for work. Am I too soft?!

My excuse is that these were my neighbours and I don't wish to upset them. Once I'm a hundered yards down the road then it's fair game!

(PS first dry day for weeks - excellent drive into the office)

Respect for donning the captain sensible hat. We had a nova thrashing laxative power chav hooning it up and down our street for months - it was awful, as he was up and down the road 10 times a day.

I'd say the rule of foot is dont go heavy until you're a few blocks away (and the car is warmed up etc) I usually creep out (thunderously) if its late

how many revs would you say? I thought it was a case of just drive by as normal and the alarms would go off... but it seems you're saying ensure car is reving high?

Or, is the blat... ease off... purely for generating pops which will set the alarms off?

Works for me..

There is an Audi TT I pass fairly often that sets off even if I keep the revs as low as possible. Problem is its next to some speed bumps so the crawling over them then getting up to more than an arthritic snails pace then crawling over the next one seems to have the effect of setting the whole road's worth of car alarms off..

I dont imagine the speed bumps leave you much room for an escape should an angry baseball bat weilding TT owner come running out into the street.

Is it the pops and bangs (I hear your car is exceedinly chatty in that department) which set off the alarms, or purely the burble and exhaust note? Also bert (cant remember) do you have a standard exhaust, got yer baffles, or straight throughs etc?

It seems that the close proximity of the buildings to the road give a nice echo effect... which in turn with pops and bangs sets them off

Remember, mines a V6, so has a very different sound... I just find that by getting to about 3500rpm in second is enough to set them off...

There is a partuclarly good village on the A272 that works magic for exhaust sounds and echoes, can't recall the name, as the sign went by in a blur!

Might be Haselmere or similar, often included on the Surrey Runs and any jaunts in that area...

Whats your motor like, compared to Bert's? I downloaded the psychbert video from luca's site, and his V6 sounds better than my V8, imho shedloads of crackle and pop, its fantastic!!

I hope, after my injectors are cleaned, mark and paul re-remap properly to induce a lot more popping. Mine is still awfully quiet, but theres that wadding which I need to disintegrate first - they say in time the popping increases, dunno how true or by how much though.

Quite a different sound. Apart from the fact that 'bert's is louder, mine is quite shrill in sound, and has a metallic rasp to it... I've had the cats removed, but the baffles are still in...

My girlfriend and I were driving about, up narrow high walled alleys etc discussing your initial reply, wondering how you managed 7 alarms. Im determined to beat you at this (consider it a duel, exhausts at Dawn ) but I recon I need to get the car popping a little more first.

I heard, regarding my new exhaust:
The older it gets, the quieter it will be, due to carbon build up
and:
The older it gets, the louder it will be, due to wadding disintegration.

What will happen?
