ign light on when car is off?

Hi, what the heck can this be? I turn off the ignition and the ign light comes on and the tacho (not a mexican snack in this case) goes up to 1200 rpm??? There is no ign key in at this stage. The car sill run fine, but I have disconnected the battery in the mean time.

Any ideas?

It is indeed the battery light, so alternator gong down. Could be worse I suppose! Anyone know how much for a new one?

Dont know about the tacho, is it the battery light? If so probably means the alternator is on the way out!

My first thought is the rectifier in the alternator, had this before. As for the tacho, mine always comes to rest at 1200.

If the tacho is an electronic one like mine, the needle freezes when you switch the ignition off.
