I finally got around to looking into why windows on both sides of my S3 rattle. There is an empty screw hole in each door (just below the screw that holds the upper rubber 'U' shaped seal in place). Seems to me that there should be a fixing to hold the (almost) vertical internal runner that guides the window. Not having a screw either side, can anyone tell me approx size/length these screws should be?

I lost one of these on my passenger side... Assuming yours are the same as mine then the screw is a thick self tapper thats been cut very short.....

Mine fell out of both sides and I found them rattling around inside the bottom of the door. Worth checking.

Bit of Loctite does the trick when refitting.

Thanks - I'll take a look inside the door - although as someone has drilled two drain holes in the bottom of the door, they may have gone out that way. Does 3-4 mm sould about the right length?

From memory, I think mine were longer than that. More like 10mm, IIRC.

If the screw isn't the cause after all, its probably the felt insert that sits in the runner itself. These have a habit of coming loose and sliding down into the bottom of the door, allowing the window to rattle against the metal runner. Its happended on both my S's over time. Door panel off jobby and superglue the bu**gers back in - bit of a b*tch of a job though!

I'll get the panels off at the weekend and see what has happened. Thanks for the help all.
