Received my new Magnecor leads yesterday (look great quality) and I just wondered whether anyone knows the firing order for the V6 (no Bible or Haynes books).

Example below:-

Can't tell you without looking it up, but just replace one lead at a time and you will be fine.

Hi Peter,

That's what I would do normally but the leads are nicely sleeved with a number and I didn't want to fit the wrong corresponding number lead to a cylinder where the lead length is similar.

I suppose it doesn't matter really but I could see a garage in the future indiscriminately yanking them off and pushing the leads back on the correct plugs but not taking note of which dizzy cap connection they go to.

Perhaps I'll remove the numbering.

Mine only fitted comfortably one way....

And the fact the leads I was taking off were numbered as well...

I believe the Dizzy cap is numbered with either a 1 or a 6.

The general convention for V engines is that cylinders are numbered according to their position down the crank. Since one bank is always slightly forward of the other, the 'forward' bank ends up with the odd numbered cylinders and the other bank ends up with the even numbered ones. However, on the Ford V6 some sources show 1,2,3 down the nearside bank and 4,5,6 down the offside. I'm afraid there is scope for confusion whichever scheme you follow!

This is the way I put my magnecore leads on. Shamelessly copied the firing diagram from "the bible".

Sorry Steve.

Hey Chris, thanks for that, it's really helpful.

Just one question, is that layout as seen from the driving seat or standing at the front of the car facing rear?

Standing in front of the car. 1&4 are closest to the rad.

Wildfire's diagram is correct.

The firing order, of the cylinders as numbered, is 1-4-2-5-3-6 - unusual I know but that's what it is.

Thanks folks, I'll be following this order tomorrow when I fit them.

I have a day off tomorrow, well I'm "working from home" which means I can get a bit of work done on the S....
