Someone has just tried to park infront of my car and crashed in to the front of it.

I didn't see it happen but their car is still there with all the tell tale signs. There are large scrape marks and bits of my paint on their car matching the damage on mine.

I have taken photos and left my number for them to call. They left no details or note or anything.

Anything else I should do - except wait until they return to their car!

Inform the BiBs asap...

They can log all the relevant info now...

Get as many witnesses to check your findings.
Try to find someone who saw it happen.

Act quickly...

Keep off of PH.

Phone the Bib and get them dwon there asap.

Make sure you have as many photos as posssible, get a winess to be there when you take the photos. Use a proper camera, not digital.

I take it their car is still there. Take note of the reg #, whether they have tax or not, if they don't have tax they may not have insurance. Take a few pics of the whole scene.

Hope this helps.

Must be bloody stupid to have not driven off, anyway that's to your advantage!

Take photos on film only not digital as they aren't admissable as evidence if it went to a court.

Note the time etc. and take a note of details on the tax disc as well as the usual reg No. make model etc.
Take photos of where you are parked and a general view of the street. Take a photo of the damage to the other car (very important) and showing them parked wwith damage visible if poss!

Report it to the police asap and they will give you an incident number which you'll need during a claim.

Don't waste any time doing this or he'll have gone.

Good luck.

PS

Good idea to also take a photo of the street name sign.

Thanks guys.

Taken photos.

Got reg no and lic. no.

Got witnesses to smash - but not seeing it actually happening.

I can see their car from my window as I type this so keeping an eye out!

The smash doesn't look too bad now I've re-checked it! Perhaps I was just being too dramatic - more a nasty scrape than a smash - but was in shock allright! Probably just paint etc so will still be a few quid to fix.

Damage to mine:

Noticed the Rover window is open - seems strange - have you lokked in to see if ignition barrel is intact - it does look like it has been abandoned as apposed to parked.

Called police. They want me to go in to report it - but I don't want to do that as it means moving my car and not being able to confront them if they return.

This happened to me a few years back, when I called the police they came out straight away, blues and twos on and everything.

Explain to them why youcan't come down and would they be good enough to come out. Usually they're ok about it. You may have to wait a bit.

Adam,

Don't give in. A respray with blending for that sort of area will cost at least a couple of hundred quick to be done properly. They've parked away from you - so they're obviously hoping to sneak away.

Good Luck,

WG

Anybody decent would have left a note. From what Danny has said it does seem that they'll try and sneak off. Get the Bib involved sharpish.

An update...

I had a mate come over to 'car sit' (and be a witness) so I could go to the Station, and as I was about to leave the owner of the car came out their house (they live opposite me!)

At first they denied everything, but after showing them the damage they agreed it was them. Apologised and said they simply hadn't noticed!

I have their name, address and telephone.

I've phoned Tower View and will take it there next week for a quote. Depending on the quote they'll decide if just to pay or to go through insurance.

Is the Police station visit still necessary?

Do I need to inform my insurance company - just in case?

As I see it the outcome (following the quote) will be one of the following:
1. They pay up from their own pocket
2. Their insurance pays
3. They suddenly deny all knowledge, in which case I know where they live! I've got photos (digital only - no film camera in the house) and a few witnesses.

Thanks all. When this happens to you for the first time (believe it or not!) it really is VERY useful having you lot here!

Now, back to feeling grotty. I've got Tonsillitis you know!

As you have no actual photos the most prudent thing would be to get the Bib involved as they could easily deny all knowledge and then you have not evideince as Digital is not admissible in court. They could do this, especially as they have tried to dodge you twice, first by not leaving a note then second by denying all knowledge. No reason to say that they won't don it again given a week. I am only being a pessimist here but best to be prudent.

Could cause some bad blood between yourself and your neighbour, but then again you could be out of pocket by a few hundred quid, more if they've bent the bonnet hinges.

Hi Adam...

I didn't reply sooner as I saw you were ok and went to the PUB...

Glad to hear most things are sorted...

I'm just amazed that earlier , some TW@T had hit your car... Only for you both to realise that he is your neighbour....

He has probably parked his car there a thousand times and you have never seen it...

Lets all hope the whole situation is amicable..

Drunk with no speeling mistokes

Ah but I admit I can't park for toffee

I'd have liked to be down the pub too but still on the antibiotics so no alcohol for me

Cheers everyone. We'll see what happens when I get the quote next week.
