window wobbler
Discussion
Got into S this afternoon, and driver side window wouldnt come down. Tried the switch to no avail. 5 minutes driving later, its working. Its rather stif, takes ages to go up the last inch when door is closed, been getting worse and I thought it just died temporarily, and later started working fine again. Any ideas, worst case / best case scenario ££?
It seems to get stiffer/slower as the weeks roll by (only really on the last several inches, with the final inch to closing being very slow indeed)

Viagra..?

Like I said spray some PTFE lubricant down the channels, if you're feeling really ambitious take the door apart and service the motor.
So like I said:
You should lube up, spread the motor, poke around in it a bit, add some more lube, give the wiring a good seeing to then finish up. You should then have a good action after that.

Im going to halfords (in a silly mood, need some air)
I also need a toolkit

Have a search through the forum this has come up several times before. It's not difficult just fiddly.
Remove the speaker grill and speaker.
Reach up inside the door to the front of the armrest - there is a nut 6 or 7 mm which needs to be undone and removed along with the large washer. This is the hardest part because you will only be able to turn the nut about a quarter turn each time with the spanner and it's a really long thread. You are also doing it by touch alone so is a real bugger. When you put it back use a wing nut so much easier than trying to use a spanner in the confines of the door.
The trim is held in place by plastic buttons that are a push fit into the body of the door. They are positioned around the outside edge of the trim.
Slide a thin flat scredriver around the edge 'til you find one then use either your fingers or a larger flat screwdriver to leaver the trim away from the door.
You may also find screws holding the trim but they should be obvious.
The trim lifts away and up but will still be attached by the interior handle cable. This simply unhooks if you need to remove the trim completely but doesn't need to be for most operations.

Had my doors trims off before and they are just held by stainless screws with chrome cup washers, no fiddly nuts to remove inside the door, what are thes fixed to on the panel?
What is the purpose of the nut, mine doesn't have it on either side and my door panels fit just fine.
Sounds to me like you could not bother with re-fitting it?

Just extra secuerity for when you are shutting the door I guess.
Ohh right, I see.
My passenger side door squeaks and I have been unable to find the cause as it always seems to stop when I look for it! Could be that replacing the nut will make the panel fit a bit firmer and stop this annoying noise.
I need to lubricate my hinges and my windows and have a look at the bobbins fibreglassed into the body on the drivers door as it has dropped a little.
I think I'll have to put a list of jobs together and try to strike off at least 2 each week.
