Newbie to pistonheads, just in process of buying my first TVR, a S2 (1990) 2.9. It's in absolute immaculate condition, new hood and rear screen and interior is unmarked, so I'm a happy chap! Any comments or guidance anyone can give me on ownership would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Buy Steve Heath's book through the TVRCC. Also contact your local Regional Organiser and meet up with other owners - best way to know what to look for and look after. Enjoy!

Yep, welcome to the S forum/club/self help group for S junkies.

There should be a wealth warning on the site as it can make you start spending lots on your car!

Engine mods, stainless exhaust, new rear lights, new wheels, new uprated brakes, new carpets, new seats, new hood (ahh one you won't need), eeerrmmm..lots of Leven alloy parts, crystal xenon headlights, clear aero LED side repeat indicators, EFi power boost valve, season ticket to Austec....

And to repeat the others, be careful in the wet. I had a nice tail slide in mine earlier today in the pooring rain.

I also kept up with a 5.7 litre V8 corvette, put a smile on my face .....he lost me on the straight tho!

Cheers guys, feedback much appreciated. On that spare parts list where's the best source of the parts, especially things like the rear light clusters and other dress up parts?

Also, is it possible to use standard Ford tuning parts for the engine, i.e. induction / filter, leads & plugs etc...?

Cheers again!

This is a good place to look for spares and part numbers (added a few here myself).

Most engine spares are Ford but there are a few exceptions, one being something that you mentioned, namely the air filters. I think I'm correct in saying that all have a pipercross style foam air filter assembly which you do not need to replace unless it falls apart but it's a good idea to spray it with a reputable filter cleaner periodically.

I'd recommend the Magnecor 8mm race spec leads as they withstand the higher under bonnet temperatures experienced in an S. There is a company called ACT and Tim Lamont there is everso helful and a thoroughly nice chap too. www.actproducts.co.uk/ignition.php

Plugs should be the same as any V6 Granada as far as I recall.

The V6 and V8 engines used in the S are very tunable and there are lots of methods and spares available to do so, especially the V8.

There is nothing particularly complicated about them but they do have there little quirks that will see you scratching your head from time to time.

To be honest, that is part of the fun and satisfaction of the ownership but if you rely on garages to do the work it can get expensive.
