Ive not polished my motor in a month (too busy, this and that, started raining last time I was about to doit) and now it looks rather grim.
If I polish the car this afternoon (Id like to) and then again tomorrow (going to that local meet) will I end up with a longer lasting ultra shine, or doesnt it work like that?

No, not really, you're better off putting 2 coats of wax on and not waiting the day. You could get dirt on the car over night if it rains or the wind blows unfavourably and then you will seal it on to the car.
Make sure you do it thoroughly as well. I include polishing all the rubber trim on the car, putting rainX on all glass, rear screen and the headlights and finally polishing the exhaust pipe as part of my weekly/bi-weekly routine.

Been thinking about the wax you reviewed, will get some when I have time. Never thought of polishing the pipes... I suppose its best to start now, in 3 months they'll be too hard to clean.
The Northants region went to a presentation from Meguiars a while ago which made some interesting points.
It seems that the layer of wax you get is extremely thin and repeated waxing doesn't make it any thicker. It also turns out that it is not necessary to keep washing and polishing the car. Once you have cleaned the paintwork and applied a layer of wax, you can clean the dirt off the wax and get back to the original shiny finish without stripping the wax off and then reapplying it. Meguiars have a 'detailing' product for this which seems to be a fine waxy oil which is sprayed on and wiped off, taking the surface dirt with it. Using this treatment, it should only be necessary to actually wash the car in the conventional sense once or twice a year. Of course if you do have a lot of dirt on the car, mud and so on, then you need to wash it off and this will usually mean reapplying the wax.
Those of you have seen my car will know that I'm more of a driver than a polisher so I may not be best placed to advise on this sort of thing, but the guy from Meguiars seemed to know his stuff and the approach he recommended does seem to work. I used to save loads of time by not washing the car, but now it seems I'm only saving a little bit of time. Best of all if I'm going to a meeting and the car is looking too dirty even for me, it only takes five minutes to get it looking repectable. That is except for the petrol/oil/road dirt that has collected on the back of the car, which seems resistant even to a very determined wash with gunk and a scouring pad.

Yep had a go with the Meguiar's quick detailer, but it's not really practical for someone who drives the car every day and keeps it outside. At around £6-7 a bottle, in order to keep the car clean, I would need over a bottle a month on a bad month. I found that re applying wax cheaper and easier.
I bought a big can of good old Zip Wax car wash and it is better than most other products I have tried. Just washing with this gives the car a very just polished shine and it is easily washed off and leathered without streaking, not that I often wash the car in the nude
I also found that Demon Shine is superb stuff, just add to a watering can of water after washing and rinsing then poor the Demon Shine over the clean car and it beads the water off the car and leaves a superb shine, even my tin top looked fantastic!
