Idle adjustment
Discussion
This is an old chesnut.
The tick-over is adjusted using the large screw under the throttle body, next to the plemun over the left hand exhaust manifold.
The throttle stop screw on the linkage should not be used. If this is the only way that you can get a sensible tick over (and that being over 1000 rpm) the I suggest that you have air leaking into the system somewhere. The usual culprit is the large inlet ducting pipe from the fuel metering unit to the throttle body. This gets porous and as it lets in air, it messes up the low end mixture.
I wrappedm mine in PVC tape and then some pretty covering and it transformed the tickover. I also had to turn the mixture screw almost a ful turn leaner as this had beened adjusted to compensate for the air leak.
Give it a try, and good luck. Mine ticks over now at below 1000 and is as steady as a rock.
