The earlier post giving a link to this Ebay listing (now ended) was removed, presumably because the moderators thought it was advertising :

I remember being able to buy these for about £7 each in the early '90s. Wish I'd put a few away for my retirement fund ...

Spares prices are becoming a joke. I have a Rover P6 3500 and I was looking at a hazard warning switch on eBay. The dealer wanted £32.50 which I thought was enough but it didn't sell. He has immediately readvertised it for £49.50!!

My front indicator lenses are still in decent shape, but it's only a matter of time before they get damaged. I've wondered about upgrading the headlamps to LEDs and doing an indicator delete at the same time, using the sort of restomod style halo lamps that 'banginheadlights' sell. I'm adding that to the list of upgrades that I'll probably never get round to ...

I have a set that I will never use.
Would take an offer of £150 if anyone interested?

I used aluminum gauze, the quite fine stuff you buy as a sheet in Halfords and other motor factors stores, along with fibreglass paste. I stuck the piece of gauze to the light where a corner was broken or missing say, but don't just stick it on, mould the gauze to fit well, tuck the ends in behind, remember, you don't want it to be proud at the edges, the aluminium moulds well. Then cover that stuck gauze with more fibreglass paste, until you have a new corner. Then it's just a case of fine sanding the area down until you have the right shape for the corner, or area, and the light shape as a whole. Once you've got it lovely and smooth with finer paper and a wet and dry pass or two, stick the orange indicator repair foil over it, this is self adhesive and takes to the surface like it's catnip to it, and you have a decent repaired usable indicator lense. In fact, you can hardly tell it's been repaired when viewing the car at normal distances and angles. And it's oh so satisfying to look at it complete and intact with the broken corners repaired well. And any cracks in the lense can be repaired from behind with the glue of your choice. I just used a fluid non gel super glue type, that sets clear. And importantly, it seals against moisture. Much better than spending big money on replacements which aren't available anyway, generally. I did buy some Nissan Terrano units however, which are slightly smaller but will fit well after some fettling of their rear bodies, and they were only £5.65 for the pair! plus small deliver charge. They were from Auto Doc. But then I went the repair route instead. Glad I did too.

Depending how they've cracked, if from behind, glue from behind, if from the front, glue from the front. The glue nozzle should be small and thin or fine, to get in and ensure penetration and a neat job. Any excess glue can be cleaned away with a cotton bud and alcohol or paint thinners or suitable similar.

I'm not making any comment eitherway on the cost of parts and components today.

All the money from this auction went to Prostate Cancer and the parts were generously donated by an ex-S owner following a shed clear out.
