Having just carried out a service on my S1 she will no longer idle. I checked the valve clearances, and adjusted them to those given in the Haynes Sierra manual, ie inlets 0.35mm and exhaust 0.40mm. I also torqued down the inlet manifold and replaced the air chamber gasket. She starts perfectly, but as soon as the temperature gauge begins to creep above fifty degrees c or I touch the throttle then she will not idle. Having read the usual literature on the subject I decided to change the auxilary air device, but to no avail. Another sunny weekend passes......any thoughts on this would be gratefully recieved.

A couple of areas that gave me similar problems were dirt getting into the idle channel that goes underneath the throttle body so give that a good blast with carb cleaner. Secondly air leaks in the hose between the filter box and the throttle and the only real answer to that is repair or replace the hose.
Hope that helps.

might be worth checking but where the throttle is (where the flexible hose ends up) there is a large idle screw on the side of the housing. Its not immediately obvious but the screw maybe fully in. Try undoing it a few turns.
