kerbs and exhaust blues
Discussion
Silly me, I sort of surfed this kerb in my '88 S1 on a tight turn going into a shopping-mall carpark and now im fcuked!! I've managed to crack the right exhaust manifold, mangle the down pipes at the bottom and partially ripped the pipes from their seating on the underneath of the car. HELP. I obviously need a complete new exhaust system and the shocks/springs (on their last legs)looked at. If someone can advise where from and approx cost i would be v grateful.
Peninsular do a nice S/S split pipe system (a la V8S) at £285 for the exhaust and £320 for the manifolds.

I fitted a complete RT Racing sports system to my S1 last year and was very impressed. The stainless tubular manifolds were a dream compared to the original cast ones and the sports exhaust does away with the front half of the box i.e the bit that hits everything. But bear in mind this is by no means the cheapest around so it's worth shopping around places like ACT to see what other deals are about.

I also got two new downpipes from Peninsular, as well as a number of other bits, and have always been impressed by them.

Good service ordered them on Monday and they were delivered Tuesday morning !!..
Stainless w/o a doubt. I think you'd probably be hard-pressed to find mild-steel components for the S anyway.

you might be able t patch up the original exhaust with some welding.. they're pretty thick. Matt.

your're not wrong there i have a weld on the manifold and on the main exhaust and both seem to be holding quite well
When I phoned around Penninsula were the cheapest and they'll probably give you a special price for ordering the lot.
ACT were extremely helpful but worked out more expensive but you do get a double skinned manifold for your money.
The people who make the exhausts that ACT sell were more expensive than ACT.
You need to factor in the cost of fitting though as the manifolds are not supposed to be easy.

Marks is only too right about the exhaust manifolds. On mine the 4 bottom, blind, studs were OK but the 4 top, open, studs were just rusted stumps and I believe this is not uncommon.Ultimate result was the studs shearing off then having to take the heads off and taking them to a machine shop to have the 4 top holes drilled and tapped. My advice on reassembly is to use brass manifold nuts to prevent any reoccurence.

I doubt it. The TVR manifold tubes run forwards to the downpipes and the Ford one's go backwards.

I got the pipes from the cats to the main box as they were pretty dented (I guess they had been grounded a few times). The cats had already been replaced when I bought the car with straight stainless pipes.
The baffles had also been removed from the main box so it was really loud
!!... I'm in the process of replacing the main box now though for one with baffles and no holes, so hopefully the car should run better even if it is quieter !!!

sorry to hear that... could try RT Racing (formerly Wedge Automotive)... take a nose at the ad in Sprint... might as well get a complete stainless sports jobbie!
