Having had the wheels reburbed on the S... I kinda figured it might be an idea to get some locking wheel nuts... just in case some scrote (or another S owner) takes a liking to them!

Hell-fords were about as useful as a wet fart... as were several other motor factors.

So, my question is... where can I get some? - and does anyone know the fitment? (are they the same as an Escort / Sierra / Hillman Avenger etc etc?)

Morning Podie

I didn't think they relied on the model of car, just the thread size and wether it was the nut or bolt type. Could be wrong though.

Wondered in with a bolt... and thread size... and simply got vacant looks. "Is it not in the chart?"

Just replaced my locking wheels nuts after the 'refurb'. Old locking nuts (the standard Halfords ones (Ford Sierra Fitment)) were a bitch to get off, the key split getting the first one off, you can imagine the fun getting the rest off!

Halfords have another choice of locking wheels nuts (the ones without the halfords logo on them) for £30. Much better finish and the key looks like its up to the job. With hindsight, glad the old ones packed up, would have hated to go thru that at the side of the road (in the rain, at night etc etc).

PS wheels fitted, look great, MD player fitted so sounds great, just need the days to count down to Le Mans!

You also have to make sure the flange bit (can't think of the correct term ) on the end of the nut where it's in contact with the wheel is at the right angle.

I know that Justin S got some from a place in Bracknell - might be worth checking back through his posts.

I've got some Ford locking wheel nuts on mine - from a Sierra 4x4 I believe but don't quote me on that. I'll try to remember to look tonight to see the product number if I've still got the packaging.

Had no problems with them at all. You can fit Halfords, but they only have a few combinations so anyone keen shouldn't have too much problems unlocking them....

Podie,
You can get McGard locking wheel nuts from Elite on the A13 in Dagenham 01708 525577,give them a ring and find out the correct ones,my mate works right behind their place so can pop in and pick them up and I can get them off him and drop them to you one lunch time if you want.I know he has them on his S2 but probably cant remember what ones he got.

I just brought some McGard from Halfords too.
Wasn't convinced by the guys behind the counter (who were all for sending me to a 'specialist'), but they seem OK.

Are these a good brand to go for then (or is it worth taking them back and getting some from the website earlier on this post) ???

McGard ones have always been pretty highly rated IIRC.

I was going to give RT Racing (formely Wedge Automotive) a call, since the other bolts in the wheels are all a bit tired / rusty... and they do a set to compliment the locking ones...

Dangerous - thanks for the offer mate, but thing I'll got with RT Racing for the reasons above...

I use "Wheelock" locking nuts on the s3, better design as uses a socket key that fits over the nut - and not using pins. Model is NB4.

Bought them from a place that sells Alloys, ther're the same as I used on my Mondeo ST200 (AFTER the wheels got nicked off the front drive !! - says a lot for Ford w/locks). Anyway, never lost the wheels again.

The fittings are identical to Ford Mondeo alloy wheel nuts I guess..

There used to be a fantastic little ice cream shop in Portchester, just round the corner from the castle. Used to be the highlight of sailing weekends when I was a nipper. That was about 25 years ago mind!

Sorry, have I wandered off topic. I blame it on premature dementia.
