Took off the inner arch today to clean up the chassis and found the bottom of the servo to be rusty. Has anyone just hammerited the servo or should it be replaced?
What is it off of AND are they expensive?
Andy
what is it with Tiv's i was doing the same job last week and found exactly the same problem.
so ditto from Me to an answer please
Recently replaced mine due to same problem with corrosion, it is likely to be from a Saab 9000 pre-ABS, further info on the recent post of mine imaginatively entitled "brake servo V8S" with details of where to try to source a S/H one.

I have just gently wirebrushed my brake servo which was very rusty on the underside but still solid.
I painted it with black Hammerite and all is now OK.
I checked with my MOT garage and they said to go ahead but not to get any paint on the copper brake pipes.
The underside of the servo obviously gets a lot of wet thrown up.

I had to replace the brake servo on my S2 a few months ago, same thing - rusted through on the underside.
You may be one of the lucky few who has the Sierra unit (integral reservoir) as these are plentiful in scrapyards. If, as most, it is one of the Saab 2000 ones (remote reservoir) then these are harder to find. If you can find a Saab 2000 in a scrapyard that is pre ABS then the Brake Servo may well be in the same state as yours, they rust in exactly the same place.
I eventually bought one from Lucas for about £120, a bit steep but considering all the running about between scapyards and the jubilation of at last findinding a pre ABS Saab 2000 only to find, after taking it off, that the servo was rusted through I should have just bought a new one in the first place!
Good luck
