Had a garage look at my car today with a view to replacing the clutch. However as I wasnt there my friend took the car in for me and the garage removed the centre console as part of the inspection for quoting the job. I just wanted to check that this part of the dash (centre section which covers the transmission tunnel) is meant to come out and I am not going to be faced with an issue after the work is done.

On a positive note the garage has quoted a full day to do the work - coming in at around £150!!! Pretty damn good.

The clutch is a specialist competition spec one from Borg and Beck with a Sachs friction plate which I bought from LeeBee some months ago so with any luck it should all go to plan.

Cheers

Hi DT

I'm probably being stupid but I don't see why you would have to remove the lower dash section to change a clutch. I would check with your friend to see if they removed it or just lifted it slightly. If they removed it then check that the air hoses have been put back correctly. They are a grade A B**ch to put back properly: I have just come in from doing just this and it took me nearly 2 hours.I also have the grazed knuckles to prove it. Not suprisingly most garages seem to leave them where they fall (no fresh air and a dash full of leaves etc. usually results). I now remember why I modded these vent ducts on my first 'S'!

Agree with the vents thing.. I've now got a stereo full of dead flies and bits of leaves which oddly enough means it tends to stop working once in a while. Think a longer piece of hosing might be called for..

Why not stick some gauze across the "entrance" of the tube...?

Good point Podie.. Would have done had I realised there wasn't any.. Only discovered that when I took the console off and discoverd enough dead flies to feed a fairly large thing that eats dead flies.. Being sorted now though..
