Took mine on it's first track day yesterday facing a 100dB limit. I know my car is loud but didn't expect the unmuffled reading to be 106dB, is this usual? A pair of Merlin Motor Sport bolt on silencers only brought it down to 103dB.

I have a pair of old internal baffles which reduced the sound to 101dB, which after wrapping with asbestos exhaust baffle reduced it further to a respectable 97dB. Although this stiffled the performance too . What readings do others register?

If it is a pre cat then this is nothing unusual. Noise readings can vary by several db so you need a bit of a margin.

Could also be made wore by the exhaust system. They tend to wear out over time and get louder!

Pre-cat are definitely loud! I've been tested twice at Goodwood this year (104.5 and 105 at 0.5 metres) and hit 95.4 on a drive by at Zolder (which was a shame as the limit was 95!).

If necessary I use bolt on silencers from ACT which according to my unofficial tests knock off a very handy 8db - + they're nice and shiny and are proper silencers as opposed to restrictive baffles.

Cheers
