broke down b4 went on hols...

Went for a drive night before i went on hols, having just replaced TP (twice!!) and engine spluttered a bit & stopped! Got back home care of RAC. Only problem I am aware of is leaking brake servo (visual check, about to be sorted). Has been running a bit iffy for a while particularly when hot. Wouldn`t start with TP removed by the way. Now sulking in garage...(just back from hols, havent tried to start her yet). Anyone had similar problems/offer any advice? Checked all fuses & fuel seems to be reaching its goal & spark is evident.Much appreciated all......Finally, as we returned from airport in girlfriend`s Passat last night, it too started to blow exhaust/cats!

Did try, no joy. Checked & cleaned as many contacts as could do/see but to no avail. Checked batt earth terminal, cleaned up & discovered I have central locking with alarm...!!!BOGGLING. Can anyone offer advice before I get Mr Engine tuner out? Pleeeze...
