Spivvy,

i live in near Newport Pagnell and am thinking of fixing my out riggers over the winter. Maybe we could buy the steel together and half it. I have a feeling that you need quite a long length to do both, have you measured.

What grade of steel are you after. Did you read the last post on my old thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=54362&f=11&h=0

I have a friend in the panel beating trade who started going on about seemless tubing and Reynolds grades. Do you know the exact spec of what you are after. How much is 7m anyway.

Are you doing all of the welding your self, let me know how you get on.

[quote] dont no if you got this sorted yet but i have dont a full rebuild of my s3 there is a story on here about it somewere and if you are going to do it your self i will advise you if you had have lived in ireland i would have done it for you at the right price the out riggers are made of a CHS or tubbing to you lot it is called ERW tubbing that is inportant as that is what TVR make all there chassis from to be frank it is shit metal and it hold mosture inside and rusteds from the inside out the best thing you can do to them is waxs oil the out riggers and the sup arms the other thing is that tvr use 16G tube i replace it with 14G which is 2mm 16G is 1.5 so not only does it help agenst rust it will stiffen the car as will what to no anymore let me no Richard

DO NOT USE GAS TUBE this is a very inferior ductile steel tubing, it is only used for plumbing purposes not rebuilding chassis.

Sorry Spivvy,

I don't look at my e-mail that often, so I missed the Northampton meeting.

Let me know when you plan to do the job, it wouold be good to talk to someone who has first hand experience of what I am letting my self in for.

Z

I will be going to the next Northampton meeting if I can.

About 21 feet

Seriously though, try John Webster, he builds dragster chassis so will have plenty of chromemoly steel and CDS2 tubing in various thicknesses and lengths. Can't remember his location exactly, but it's in an industrial estate in Rushden. Will try some websites for his full address and pass on asap.
