I have heard that I can get into the boot with some involved work, but all my tools are in the boot. . Also I have to go back to work now.

Went there in first week of ownership - see following thread and mail

Link Removed

Have to admit that even with Peter Humphries detailed explanation of what to do, chickened out and went home for spare keys.

If anybody wants to know how to do it just in case, give me a mail.

Chris,

I'm sending you an email with full details. In the meantime, I'd advise editing your posting and removing the explanation you've put there. We don't really want to let any casual lurkers know how to get to the contents of our boots.

Richard

Edited to say: I've just read your last posting, so I won't bother with the email now. However, I would suggest that you check the emergency procedure in the bible and then make sure that everything's in place in case you need it in the future. I got caught out when my boot release died and ended up having to go to very extreme measures to get in!

Point taken... duly edited. And there was I trying to be subtle and evasive!

P.S. You'll also need to edit your quote of my posting.

If you have an electric boot release, you can almost always get in one way or another. If all else fails, there's a mechanical release which can be used in an emergency, I'm sure you'll have read about this in the past and if not - get yourself a copy of the bible.

Locked my keys in the car at Zolder last year ... took me 5-6 secs to get into the car .... I reckon I can do it with every S there is without damage ... very easy

I've made a few edits to stop S owners worrying.

As said by others it's best to err on the side of caution as you never know who is looking in.

Cheers.

The problem that I had was that the connecting wire between the solenoid and the catch had fallen out (so I could activate the solenoid but it didn't do anything useful), and the mechanical release was inaccessible (a problem which I've since rectified!).

HELP! It's 11:45 on a Friday night and the boot release solenoid's stopped working on my S3. I press the boot release button (and can hear the relay in the passenger footwell click) but the solenoid doesn't make it's normal "clunk" noise.

the problem is I'm 100 miles from home and all my clothes are in the boot. Can one of you kind gentlemen (or ladies) please email me and let me know how to release it manually... I haven't got my Bible...

I'm currently checking all the fuses......

Don't even go there!

P.S. 8 months to reply to a posting - is that a record?

Reading my original owners booklet over the weekend (sad I know) I noticed that it mentions a panel for accessing the boot from inside the car. Does anyone have this (could be useful when the boot release fails)?

I known this doesn't help with the key situation!

wasn't this the 'Ski Flap' that appeared only on the very first few S1?

IIRC this was only on about 15-20 cars...
