Well, had the S2 for exactly a month and here are the problems to date:

Broke down three times- first throttle pot, second throttle cable broke, third jammed starter.
Passenger door started to fall off, just needed tightening.
A part dropped off on the M5 and I still don't know what it was.
Water coming up through the floor- turned out the grommet was missing (or was removed to let same out as per my old Taimar)
Water coming through the roof (expected this one)
Horrible tick over and strange throttle response resolved by resetting EMU with a battery disconnect.

The last time I broke down was in 1977 and now I have had the pleasure 3 times in a month! I suppose there is an added dimension now to every journey that was not there before- will I get there?

The real point of this list is to say that each problem was resolved quite simply by asking or referring to this group so 'thanks guys'. By the way I seem to have had most of the common 'S' ailments in a very short time- what else have I not had yet that I should expect?

Jeez, what a lousy run of luck you've had!

I have had the S3 since June, and not had any problems - done a fair few miles, including trips to Cheddar Gorge, and over Hardnott Pass. The exhausts tearing up anything they can grab has been my only gripe. The constant scraping led to some cracks, manifold gasket etc. The diff's a bit noisy, and had new engine mounts, but apart from that she's sweet. You've done the throttle pot - next is the snapping cable, but can't advise as have not experienced either yet!

Keep your chin up - let's hope you've heard the last - these cars aren't as unreliable as people make out, but there's always good and bad.

Get a good summer behind you, and you'll never look back, or stop grinning

Boy you have had some bad luck, I, like Keiran, had an S2 for 7 months and it never missed a beat!!! Just bought a V8S and hope thats as reliable as my S2 was! However unreliable your car turns out to be, it will still make you smile!!!

For the Hood, I can say that if you put sealant on it it should be a lout better. Mine leaked on both sides until I put a couple of coats of Thompsons on it.

Thats unlucky - had mine since Aug - touch wood it hasn't let me down yet!

Minor gripes have been thoughrouly outweighed by the 'grin factor' of the open road and the stainless exhaust...

what were teh syptoms that led to the throttle pot diagnosis?

I am coughing ans spluttering at low revs, and the engine is cutting out sometimes when I dip the clutch ( ie it won't idle after driving).

And then it's fine the next day.

Other joys of the "S" to come are

Loose drivers door mirror

Sticking milometer (sp)

Lightbulbs blowing

Accelerator cable snapping again

Manifold starting to blow

Shocks giving up the ghost

Additional charges (£286) from the AA for picking it up just because its a specialist car

Locking up under breaking and realising the car needs a bit more respect

Being hit my the other alf for driving dangerously

Locking up under breaking when you are on your own and laughing so loud it hurts

Laughing out loud every time you enter a tunnel or go under a bridge

Just laughing out loud at the memories of peoples faces as you drive past them

And just feeling a bit of a smart arse for having the balls to buy a TVR

That's about the first six months covered - proper car

Hood- Same as yours, lousy tickover and kangarooing down the road feeling like a learner driver. Disconnect the throttle pot and see if it runs OK in 'get you home mode (albeit probably with higher tickover), if it's OK you need a new pot.
