The Rain!!! Nooo The Rain!!
Discussion
And then a strange sound made Wildfire glance up from his PC, over the din of hs head phones and he did see the sky darken to an neverending sheet of grey, and the heavens opened. Pouring water from the sky to cascade down onto the panels of his office and he thought.
Nooooo! My S is out there!!! :Yikes:
Lucky I actually decided to put the shower cap on it before I went in to the office. Almost couldn't be bothered

I have taken to stuffing my car with towels and changing them after the downpours -
Took it out for a spin yesterday - roof down and heaters on 'full blast' (sic) - guess what happens?
pi$$es down!
My cover is soaked through at the moment so I cant use it... anyone know the outlook for the rest of the week?

Rest of the week is supposed to be Wet as to day is. Had to drive in in the pouring rain, and put the shower cap on a wet roof. Not great I know, but it got a lot heavier when I reached work, so at least the roof didn't get hit by the heaviest rain.
I tend to give the roof a couple of coats of Thompsons each time I get caught out in the rain.

I too dont have the luxury of taking my S2 off the road...
couple of Q's:
How do you wash the salt off the chassis?
How do you know that salt is on there?
I havent had a chance to have a good look underneath for a while now... was waxoyled over the summer so fingers crossed should be OK...

Just had the oil changed on the car this weekend. I was quoted £60 for a full waxoyl of the chassis!! Pretty good. I usally do it my self but since moving haven't had a chance.
Not sure about washing the chassis off. I just drove through the rain, the amount of water on the road today has to have washed any salt off.
Hows the front end looking Tim?

If the muck down the sides of your car has a whiteish hint about it, thats salt! So if its down the sides, then it all over your chassis.
Roy.
You are in my world when you start talking salt and how to look for it. Roy is right you look for the white marks and wash them off. lots of water. The other thing and likely the most important. Look for sand (grit) that is suck in the welds and angles of the frame. A power washer is great but not to high of pressure or you drive the salt into the gaps. Wash it well. I fonud (we look close here) 2 areas that I was not impreesed with. The tailing arms are open and hollow and I forget where but another open end tube. I have sprayed Rust proofing in these hole and I'm looking for caps to stop the grit getting in.
Now stop your whining about rain I have had to store my car for the winter already.
Come on April.
Cheers

Sitting at my PC dripping everywhere and it's not even raining!!
Yeah - but at least devoted soaking S owners make for good comedy for our co-workers ... and in the spring we have our revenge ... vrrooooooom !

Thanks Matt - unfortunately it isnt the hinge that's bent - but the square box section the this attaches to (which I fear is part of the Chassis...)
not so easy to bend I guess...
How the heck did the box section bend and not the threaded bar that comes out of it?????
How bent is it?? Pics??? If it isnt too bad you may be able to heat it up and give it a few well placed hits, if not, you may need to grind the bent bit off and have a new bit welded in.
Roy.

You can get a new hinge kit for the S, such as this one:
(this one came from Steve Parker)
Cheers
Matt
Matt,
Is it S27 Steve Parker from the S Wales TVRCC?
Can you advise how much it cost or if Steve could mail me off line I'd be very interested in a kit.
Ta!
Ray
Yes it is... he didn't make it though, I merely bought it off him with some wheels (then passed it on to CarZee). I don't know where he got it from beforehand I'm afraid.
Cheers
Matt.
