I'm buying an S3 but no garage (and no room to build one). Any advise on covers, previous experience without a garage etc. appreciated

Check the insurance first if you have no garage...

My S3 is parked in a residents car-park when room and the street when there isn't.

Was insured with Tesco's, now with Admiral (half the price).

Use the Lightweight Waterproof cover from Classic Additions (website here). Only use the cover when the car is clean(ish) and dry - so that's only about 1/4 of the time.

Chipping ice from the inside of the windscreen can be fun, but other than that - no worries.

Be careful your face doesn't get stuck with the TVR grin

I'm insured OK without a garage but depends on postcode, my quote was actually no different with a garage! Just bought a Leven hood cover as I did some research on this and the general consensus seems to be that a full cover is great if your car is spotlessly clean and dry when it goes-on. mine however will not be and any dirt left on the bodywork will potentially act like sandpaper if it's windy. The hood cover just does the important bit of protecting the car from leaks.

Thanks for the quick response. Looking forward to having a TVR grin even if I end up looking like "The Joker".

I also use this lightweight waterproof cover on an S2. Works well, but the front of the cover has come detacted from the car in windy conditions several times. Luckily there is a central securing scrap. Again, make sure the car is clean, otherwise it may abrade the paint.

Cover is a good idea.. Insurance wise mine is off the road but not garaged and I've got a cracking deal with Liverpool Victoria. Well worth a look.. (Unlimited milesage, class 1 business use, about £500 fully comp.. Not bad at all..)

Leven car cap £150, but v. heavy duty and worth the cash IMHO.

Unfortunately, I'm incredibly lazy (hence cap, not full cover - would have left it off too many times!)and these days I don't bother tucking in the flaps front and back (obviously not visible in above pics) and still the cover does not budge in high winds - wing mirror clips (quick release) do the job fine.

Insurance - I use Classic Line (see TVR Sprint mag for no.) Parked outside, restricted mileage, me &wife: £260

Best of luck mate & welcome to the club

Also.......

If not done already, join tvrcc, come to Mid-Essex meet to have a good look at S3 so you know what to expect when buying (6 S3s last meet!)- meet 2nd Sunday of month at Forresters Golf Club, Gt. Totham - we convoy from Chelmsford (this is a TVRCC meet - so you should join first).

Check the chassis carefully on any purchase - I think Pies has more tips on his website - do a member search.

How does that attach at the back? I'm just wondering about it being blown off in high winds, but can't see a machanism to prevent it..

I believe it tucks under the boot lid. Not sure how that affect water peeing into the boot though! That's the only thing putting me off getting one...

I joined TVRCC a couple of months ago and have visited Midessex club for a browse at these brilliant motors. Now I've got to find an S3. Pistonheads has one for £5000 (blue) but the owner is saying there is pistonring wear - worth a look or not?

The S Type Hoodcovers fit by a full width inner flap that goes under the bonnet and a full width flap that goes in the boot. Once the bonnet & boot are shut the flaps will not come out holding the Hoodcover down and preventing it being stolen. The wing mirror clips stop the sides flapping in high wind. If anyone has more questions please call us on Tel: 01268 281611

I can say the Leven hood cover is very good! Use mine every day, no problems. The only thing is the stitching for the flaps is a bit weak and mine has started to tear a bit. But not a huge problem. Well worth the money.

As I said, I'm a lazy s0d, so I haven't used the flaps for a while - they're actually there to stop the cover being nicked (although they only fit the specific model anyway). The wing mirror quick release clips are enough to secure in high winds - I've checked after some good winds and the cap hasn't budged!

The flaps are attached underneath the cover, so the front/back actually extends past the bootlid/bonnet edges - thereofre no leak problems!

Don't know where in Essex you are Mstone, but if anywhere near Bishop's Stortford, email me, and you can have a look at both cover and car!

I ten not to put the flaps on when the car is at work, but at home I always put them on, as I had my last cover nicked.
