A few months ago I bought a S3c. I had to promis my girlfriend that I wouldn't spend all my spare time on the car and neglect her.
I thought I could get her enthousiastic for the TVR as well (she likes driving fast cars), but unfortunately she can barely touch the pedals.
So....does somebody have an idea how I can solve this??
Are there ways to make the pedals easy adjustable, or does anyone know about extra seats that can be put in the drivers seat?

When we started looking at Chims Mrs Hobbit could not touch the pedals, and I thought I'd had it.

Peninsula modified the seat mountings and fitted and adjusted a "short driver" Leven pedal set, and have ordered a custom "booster" seat for her that matches the doeskin leather seats.
She (at 5'0") can drive the car quite happily now.

You're welcome to pop round to take a peek, but having just checked your profile you're a little bit far away!

Hope this helps,

Karl

AFAIK the cars came specified by the first customer with a selection of pedal box sizes. If you get your head in the footwell you should be able to read off the desciption behind the pedals, standard long or short. Don't know how expensive it would be to revert to a 'short' pedal box if it is a long one fitted, or if it is even possible, or if they even exist as I might be talking out of my ass .
As already said it might be worth your while talking to a specialist though.

I would have to agree with pistolar. After 24 years of marriage and the odd one happy. If she is complaining already, keep the car and move on with out the girlfriend. It only gets worst.

I understand that some people have replaced pedal boxes with Griff / Chim ones... and then added the Leven pedal extensions.

Alternatively give Leven a call and see if they can help...

erm, not sure if she would appreciate me saying this but when Mrs Carzee drives their S1.5 she uses a baby seat and this works ok. She said on another thread the other day that she is 4' 11".

Might want to e-mail Carzee/Mrs Carzee directly as I dont think they often look on the S forum.

many years ago I had Lotus Excel and I couldn't depress the pedals fully(5ft7" too). So I attached rubber blocks with industrial velcro. If someone else needed to drive it I just took them off. It worked well. Maybe an option.

My S2 was specified from the factory with a short pedal box and when I re-carpeted it I found that the seat mounts had been modded too (2" forward), which probably explains why Podie had trouble fitting in it when he went to look at it. The mod requires nothing more than unbolting the seat (4 nuts under the car, lift the seat up and place it down where it needs to be. A good idea would be to shift the seat adjuster to the fully forward point and sit the girlfriend in it, check that she can reach everything and that the door shuts ok. While she's sitting there, mark the hole positions with chalk, then remove the seat and re-drill. You should find that the seat will adjust back enough for you aswell.

As an aside, mine was also specified with high pressure headlamp washers, does anyone else have these. Mine appear to have been lost following a front end shunt when previously owned, but the water reservoir is still present and I may try to resurrect them if I can find the parts.

Might explain a bit... did find it a struggle to get comfy in the car... although to be far the main issue was that the S3 (which I went for in the end) had a wider door opening, and given that I have a restricted amount of movement in my knees was a serious issue (I still struggle a bit in the S3!).

Shame really... nice car and sounded awesome..

Hmm... saw a red one at the mid-Essex meet once... will see if I can dig out a pic.

Change the girlfriend. If she hasn't got long legs then she's of faulty manufacture.

i remember that car from the pic in your profile. Bought and sold v quickly by some bird after she had spent a packet on it. Was up for sale for a v good price too IIRC. Looks lovely.

Indeed, though looks can be very decieving. Chassis, engine and main body are good, but it appears to have had a front end shunt and a really bad respray to cover it up, the carpets were rotten and the leather has had an equally unprofessional respray too. All prior to Louise buying it I might add. She then spent about £2K at DG's to put a lot of minor stuff right. But then all that was reflected in the price I paid (still owe M@H a beer for advice given). Plenty of work in progress though

It was owned by Louise Macey (sp?) who has since disappeared from the forums. M@H came to see the car with me and although it needed a bit of work, it was generally (certainly mechanically) very sound.

Had a boot release in a strange place... didn't suffer from door drop (!) but sounded amazing (newish S/S exhaust).

IIRC she put it in with [name removed] to have some work done, they went to town on it, replaced loads of stuff without her permission, and then refused to return the car unless she paid. She loved the car, but I understand her partner didn't.

tis very true. Although IIRC as an addition the peddles are also adjustable I think ours are on the setting furthest forward.

I bought my child seat in halfords, it is a polestyrene one with a cover on it. Zee kindly sawed off the side pieces and it is very sturdy, much better than soft cushions.

How it works is that it raises me up high enough for me to almost lie back in the seat - giving me the full length of my legs to reach the peddals. I suspect your other half is used to sitting close to the steering wheel so this takes a bit of getting used to but I now love the feeling of laying back in the seat arms outstretched yet still being tall enough to see all around me. I guess this may sound odd to those of you who are tall who take it for granted but believe me it is very difficult for us verically challenged people.

Well thanks for the tips! I'll start to find out which one works best (changing my girlfriend is not an option...). Next time I will buy the car first and then find a girlfriend who fits.
