The controls on my heater seem to have become disconnected... I can only get hot air up to the windscreen and none to my feet and legs, regardless of what position the control slider is in. Does anyone know how big a job it would be to get it all connected up? I'd like to go for a blast on a sunny frosty morning without having to put a pair of my wife's tights on under my trousers...

Hi I had the same problem on my S2.

My problem was the outer cable sheath had come detached from the clamp on the back of the heater control. The clamp is plastic and it wouldn't grip the outer sheath properly. So I made up a metal one to replace it. That took about 5 minutes, but it took about two hours of grovelling in the passenger footwell with my hands behind the dash to do it. Had to remove the side panel and pushing the clock and radio out gave me a bit of room but it's a bloody fiddle. As your's is an S1 it may have the digital clock (mine has an analogue) so you might not have to move that. If it's disconnected at the heater end I think you can get to it from the driver footwell but luckily I haven't had to do that so don't know how easy it is.

Thank you Colin, I thought it might be a pain in the ar**! Maybe I'll just leave it in the garage until the weather warms up...

I think I have the same problem with my S3. Anyone knows how to solve that?

There is no hot air ducting pipe to blow hot air onto your feet on an S1. The cabin setting direct the hot air through vents just below the ashtrays near your knees. This will only work if the fan is on and even then is not very good.
The hot air for demist will rise naturally if you have no fan.
My fan does't work so I use themal socks and wear a flying jacket and keep a car blanket for the passenger.
I have been told by S1 owners who have working fans that there is little heat produced.
If your fan is working then your comments are further proof.

It is possible to get the heater out completely without totally removing the dash board, but it is difficult, and you can expect some wires to fall off while doing it. I have done it but it was a couple of years ago. I can't remeber how the control attaches to the slide.
To undo the dash there are only 4 screws, two at the back of the console and one each end of the dash.
Good luck.
