Having found one stray spark at the coil which improved the running of my S2, the rough running has come back. I decided to take a look under the bonnet in the pitch black and there was a light show to rival Blackpool. Looks like I need new leads, any recommendations for the best?

Interestingly I tried this when the engine was cold and there were no visible stray sparks, when the engine is hot they are everywhere. Can only assume the insulation begins to break down when hot.
