I seem to recall that philips powerbulbs (as per the link below) have been recommended in the past as a lighting upgrade - can anyone tell me which ones fit?

yeah - the factory lights are shite arent they! - were they always bad or do they degrade over time?
As I think PeterH found, on some cars the headlight feed is taken off the ignition switch and not through a relay. This would be why the ignition block suffers a bit, but it also reduces the power to the lights.
You may want to consider this as well - www.mod-wise.com/page12.html.
I see modwise are also doing a rather nice velcro LED strip for lighting the boot. Another one for the list!

I've been using one I got from the innovations catalogue for about £3... two spot light that move.. powered by 4x AA batteries... slap some velcro on the back and you can stick it anywhere..!

I've been using a miner's helmet, which doubles up nicely as an extra headlight![]()

Recent Auto Express bulb review gave Osram and Phillips Vision plus the best ratings. I also noticed that Vision Plus are now advertised as plus 50% rather than original plus 30% but still legal. I am waiting for a pair to arrive after getting them on Ebay for under £10 including postage - loads on there with quite a price variation.

Probably degrade over time, (earth connections are a particular problem), however I find that mione are significantly worse after a 300 mile run than before. The angle of the lens is such that they very easily pick up any much on the roads and they tend to end up looking black.
Psychobert said:Agreed. At this time of year you really need to give them a quick wipe off before every journey when you're likely to use them.

IIRC, it's around 40% of light output that can be lost due to dirty headlights!
As far as the VisionPlus bulbs go, they definitely provide a huge improvement, for both dipped and main beam.

Just had a look on Ebay and best price is ti7anic at £7.99 + £2.50p&p, is this who you ordered from? Just that I get very jumpy paying for stuff on Ebay though I suppose a tenner isn't much!
Yes Simon thats where mine are from but worked out at same price inc postage. That was probably the luck of the bidding. Have got a few bits off Ebay and all as advertised so far. I do look at the feedback to see how many things they have sold and whether there are any reported probs though.

I have give up on putting Angel Eye headlights into the S and am now considering Crystal Halogen lights, that can be fitted to minis. Will probably have a go next month or when the weater gets better.
Will these fit? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2455546164&category=31348
If not have you thought about a slightly modified Chim speed six conversion?
If anybody else feels like going mad, then you can get 160100 watt H4s for £7.61ea
Excellent for clearing snow and ice! Andy

Yep they will fit, I was going to put them on, but decided against the looks.
Going to try these:
www.minitrailers.com/crystal.htm
They are for minis but will fit as the S lights are the same as the mini halogen coversions.
I'll make you a deal Roy, you go for Angel Eyes, I'll go Crystal Halogen (when I get paid) then we'll see which looks better. I was considering the Angel Eyes, I thought they'd look quite distinctive on an S, but then the Crystal ones look quite good, especially with the LED side lights.
