I've done something dumb.

Parallel parking looking out the back window - didn't see a tree at the side of the road - and it snapped off my drivers side wing mirror.

Gotta watch out for those trees - they do it deliberate like.

Anyway - anyone know where I could get a replacement unit from. They're the citroen ones that are fitted to the S3c's, some S3's, S4's, Chims etc ...

I'm told they're rarer than Rocking Horse Poo.

Hmm..

1) Try Citroen
2) Try PR Woods (westcliff on sea) - rumour has it he has a stockpile...
3) Try a breakers yard
4) Look for someone breaking a Griff / Chim..
5) Go for something different

Best of luck chap...

Let me know how you get on. I'm looking for the very outer rim that stops the mirror sitting 'proud' of the enclosure. It was missing when I got the car and I didn't notice for a few weeks!

( unless, of course, I can be cheeky and ask if that bit is still in one piece on yours? )

Keep me posted too. Mine are looking decidedly Tatty. Are yours the electric ones?

Don't suppose anyone has replaced the awful pre-S3c mirrors with the nicer XJ220/Citreon ones at all?

One less thing to go wrong (electrically!)

Don't want them to be electric, that'd be far to much effort, but pretty and perhaps colour-matched would be good.

If I find a complete replacement - I'd be happy too. I'll let you know in due course - Austec are going to have a go at welding it in a couple of weeks time. But it sounds tricky and I figured I should get a back up plan together ...

From what I understand, Citroen stopped making them a long time ago. TVR themselves ran out a good year or so ago. I like the sound of Option 2 - will "give it a whirl".

Thanks for your help everyone,

IIRC its a very tricky job as the Citron ones have a square bit cut out and its not a straight swap over?? Maybe start a thread to ask if anyone has done this? I wanted to do this on my old S2 but figured it was too much work!

I might have a couple of spare mirrors (also might have a spare surround) I will have a look in the workshop this weekend (which part is broken?)

I have got all the pieces ready to convert my S2 to the Citroen mirrors, possible but expensive

Cheers

Mr PR Woods (mentioned earlier) is indeed able to get hold of them. They haven't got any at the moment - but is expecting a delivery in the next few weeks from a supplier on the continent. Currently £110+VAT.

I have a spare drivers side door mirror from a '95 Chimeara. Electric but without the door opening button, it is Ocean Haze in colour.

That sounds kind of like what I need - the outer case on mine is undamaged so I could switch them over. Bit puzzled about the door button - didn't know wing mirrors came with door buttons ! Any chance you could send me a pic ?

Many Thanks,

I had exactly the same problem! I ended up getting in touch with the factory and they very kindly sent me the rim of a 'broken' Chimaera that they had in the yard; I then just had to get it sprayed the right colour. Mind you, I don't know whether that's something they'd do on a regular basis.

They do on all models from the Chimaera (part way through production) onwards.

As a slight aside, I was impressed that in Swordfish, when John Travolta pulls up outside the club in the Tuscan, the doorman knows to open the door with the button on the mirror - obviously a TVR afficienado (or maybe they just decided to avoid a comedy scene where the guy tries to get the door open! )
