Right, following on from my 'How did you get over the urge' thread, and Bob the Planners comments on how I could own one this year with a little bit of thought, I have decided it's time I started looking.

However, the S isn't a car I've looked at very closly over the years I've been interested in TVR's.

As with every car purchase I don't want to go and see a seller and him bullsh8t me on how many 'optional extras' this car has when they are standard and every car has them.

So a basic spec sheet of an S3 would be lovely.

I would also like a list of 5 - 10 things that immediatly shout NO when looking at an S. Thats before I get it checked out by an specialist.

I have read the PistonHeads S buying guide but would like a little more info.

Cheers
Stuart.

Step 1, check approx insurance costs, if ok proceed to step 2

Step 2, buy the bible by Steve Heath, has a spec sheet for all "S" cars as well as lots of info you WILL need during ownership

Step 3, condition is everything with these cars especially the chassis

Wheres the best place to purchase the Bible from then? I notice that Ted doesn't sell it (Maybe something to look into Ted? But then again you probably already have ) and I couldn't find it new on Amazon.

As for insurance, it's gonna be astronomical, but thats a perk of the car (they all do that sir ) but I'm gonna try and get a classic policy with someone and just lie about the mileage

And there are the classifieds in the back of Sprint, another reason to renew

Check the condition of the hood/rear window. I didn't when getting mine and I regretted not doing so as it is a fair whack as well as a hassle to get it fixed.

Chassis is premium.

1. Other Half
2. Parents
3. Bank Manager
4. Insurance Company

Sorry, could only think of 4.

In reality (I do visit sometimes)

1. Chassis condition esp. outriggers
2. Too many spiders
3. Interior and hood, ignore carpet and small bits of trim.
4. Lack of history
5. Oil leaks
6. Excessive engine noise or vibration

I would like to add, that if the above problems are found, but are then reflected in the asking price, you could choose to ignore them. Only you know what you are prepared to accept as fixable.
