A couple of years ago one of the camshaft bearings bound on the camshaft and spun in the block writing it off.

I brough a scrap engine and rebuilt it with a mild road cam and adjustable pressure regulator and smoothed ports in the cylinder head. I had the car rolling road tuned by Motorvation of Dorking (they have now closed).

I didnt get round to MOTing the car until recently upon which it failed quite spectacularly on the emissions (hydrocarbons at 4300 rather than under 2000).

The car was running a treat so I dont really want to loose the setup. Anybody got any bright ideas, unfortunately simply adjusting the airboxes doesn't work, the fuel pressure would need to be altered aswell.

I woundered about having the ignition reprogrammed (chipped) anybody done this, would it work and how much improvement can I expect, I was getting a very nice power curve peaking at 188bhp.

Cheers.

Steve.

Motorvation of Dorking are (unless im badly mistaken)Now Austec Racing at Gatwick.

They recently rechipped Podie's car, thread is called "on the rollers"

Could do far worse than take it there for some analysis

Steve

Wondered how the problem was resolved and also wondered what camshaft you've got as my heads need to come off and I'm slowly coming round to the idea of a different camshaft...

Piper 285!! That's the ticket, lumpy idle, goes like a rocket from 3000prm.

Well that's what I've got in my 1 litre mini anyway.

All joking aside I've been told by Burton Engineering that Kent 276 is about as wild as you can go for fear of con rod failure in the Colognes.

I'm in a similar quandry, in that my S3 had a Kent 45 cam fitted and goes like stink over 3k but is very rough, I haven't tried for an MOT myself but am thinking about the adjustable pressure valve. I'm worried that if I fit one I will be in similar problems to you.Keep us posted on the results.

On the adjustable pressure valve front, if you are unlucky enough to have the horizontal bolt type, the price is now £98 rather than £59.
