A suggestion:

How about Leven have a think about some S items they would be prepared to produce if there were enough commitment.

For example - I would love some silver surrounds for my dials.

Then all those who would like them send a deposit, say £20 via Paypal to Leven. Leven don't withdraw these funds until enough people have committed to make it viable, or if not enough have committed after perhaps three months the customers could withdraw their funds and no-one has lost anything.

If enough have committed, then Leven withdraws the deposits, and bills the customers at a convenient point.

I would suggest that this system could be used to guage viability on a number of S custom products.

What do you all think?

Podie did previously try to get owners to put their money where their mouth was to no avail. Search for a thread re alloy stalks.

I realise that - but using Paypal is easy and obviates the need for cheques in the post etc. The easier it is for the customer the better.

Alex

Podie's attempt didn't even involve money! All he asked was a show of hands, but the UK's largest S forum couldn't even manage 25 names with no actual commitment.

I will happily stick my £70/£80 notes up front if I thought I'd get my stalks, but if we can't even get names on a list, what chance does Paypal have? (although good that you're thinking of alternatives)

If someone is feeling really keen, they could get an S list from Ted/PH and email them all, rather than hoping enough people will stumble apon the thread. If you can get enough names to present to Leven, they may be more forthcoming. If this still doesn't work, I'm sure Lee or Karl might look into it.

At present, there are many threads having a snap, but no real show of commitment.

I'm sorry but I don't have the time myself (read: I'm too lazy) to start this, but if anyone sends me an email - I'll commit to the lot!

I see your point, but the idea behind using Paypal is that it gives a focal point for making a financial commitment, and a period of time in which to do it (perhaps three months) - maybe enough time to lobby people a little.

I'm new here, but I'd be happy to try and co-ordinate this by emailing and reminding. I'll see if Leven are interested in having a go.

Perhaps the first items to start with would be the alloy dial and guage surrounds - I know I'd like them and by reading through the threads it would seem that many other owners would too.

Any other suggestions?

Try LeeBee:

"Right my current alloy parts include

Air vent bezel and centre knob
Steering wheel bezel (allows Griff horn push)
Fan/fog/dash illumination switches (replace black rotary items fitted to S1/2/early S3
S1 alloy heater/clock panel with alloy sliding knobs

The alloy stalks are almost complete only needing a couple of holes and slots milled.Other projects drawn up are the alloy clock bezels and heater control panel for the early cars and a surround for the later cars

There are many other items that I have designed but at the moment I am concentrating on getting the current items manufactured.

Happy Christmas!

LeeBee"

I read this as well on the Chim forum and got very excited however - when I looked my dial surrounds are steel and rusting under the paint so very pitted would take me a lifetime to clean-up and mild steel never really looks that good. speedy cables do a chroming service but I think it's over a £100 so I was waiting to see what Lee/Karl came up with

Kieran - back in your box... Shnozz is correct.

I actually asked for a show of hands, and then asked if people were prepared to put the momey down to PROVE to Leven that there was interest... I had 2 e-mails.

If anyone has any ideas, then you are probably better off contacted them directly, rather than posting here.

I have made it clear to Leven (and they have acknowledged) that if they require an S for measuring / testing, then all they have to do is ask (I'm local) - indeed I have happily obliged on several occasions.

I'd be interested in most parts too!

Trouble is this is getting confusing and I think we're going round in circles somewhat.
Just take a look at the number of recent threads/posts on this subject!

Roy_S2 is going to speak to Karl, possibly this weekend, LeeBee will have a few prototypes soon and Leven will only commit if there is enough support (fair enough).... think it's time to take stock and have some clear direction on this!
