Maintinence costs

Dont mean to be funny Pwig, but on the wages that you posted on the general gassing you will struggle if anything goes slightly wrong on an S2/3. And its a 12/13/14 year old TVR
My S never had any major problems (just routine stuff for an older car like shocks and springs, diff etc) and I had several services (from an independant) that were nearly £1000.
Besides, if you buy one they will depreciate quicker than my chim pulls away from Mungo's Seat Leon.

My S2 averaged about £600 a year over several years (10k a year at the time) at Offords - just routine servicing and the odd minor repair. You can easily add hundreds of quid to the bill if anything major goes though.
Just hundreds ? I've stopped counting how much I've spent since last april - must be approaching 3K and I haven't even done the engine rebuild yet

pwig, I'd have to second Podie. I've had my S since September and it's cost me about £1000 in repairs so far and these were all essentials. Still got a few things to sort out, plus the insurance for your age would be insane. You'd be looking at at least £5K for the car and probably £2 - 3k for a year's insurance. So £8K starting off, and more for a decent S3. Most insurers wouldn't even bother to quote you on a TVR, unless you go on your parent's policy, even then you'll struggle. I struggle and I am older and have 5 years NCB.
Remember group 20 insurance. You'd be better off saving you're money and going for somthing with cheaper insurance and newer. How about a kit car? Also if you don't know too much about mechanics, then you'll pay a fortune in labour to get things fixed. You'd also have to get used to the 20 odd mpg you get.
For example if your chassis goes and you fail an MOT you're screwed. You won't get anything for it trying to sell it and you still have to pay it off.
Fortunately I have full garage facitlities at home with my parents, welding, spraying and all and if it really all goes wrong, a couple of spare cars for emergency.
