don't minis have the gearbox in the sump and share the engine oil? My old Citroen Visa GT was like this and as the oil got old the pressure light used to flicker when it got really hot - someone suggested using Mobil 1 as it had a different construction not using long chain molocules which eventually get cut up by the pressure of the gears, no more flickering lights after that!!
On the Tiv (just to avoid confusion)
There is an oil filler plug on the RH side of the gearbox, basically you fill it up through there and you also check the level in there. Can't remember all the details but it's covered in the Bible.
Obviously car needs to be level so either has to be up on a lift or on ramps at the front and on axle stands at the back or some similar arrangement. Don't think you can get to the filler from inside the car.

Sorry my bad. I did mean on the Tiv. Yep the Minis do use the same oil, so I just use Valvoline or GTX Std. Can't use synthetic or Semi synthetic in it.
Just wondering abou the Tiv.
What I meant was that when I changed the oil in the mini is it did the gearbox as well.
Mini wise , yep we have 6 in the family including 2 Original Cooper S's and a Woody Traveller.
