Just trying to set the car up for its impending MOT and realise that I need to correct the non existant number plate light -

I currently have two wires and a block of transparent plastic.... no bulb and no holder

Is this a complete part or am I just missing the bulb and holder.

I seem to recall these can catch fire if not fitted right so would really rather get a whole unit rather than try and bodge.

cheers all

The holder is just two bent bits of metal on the end of each wire, sandwiching an old-fashioned torpedo-type interior light bulb. It's a TVR bodge.

I just fitted a new one to my S. It's from a TR7 - you can order them from Rimmer Brothers at www.rimmerbros.co.uk:80/cgi-bin/rimmer?tr7/electrical#Rear Number Plate Lamp
- a new one only costs about a fiver.

A wee bit more info here : www.haggishead.myby.co.uk/TVR/nov03.html

you can see how it starts fires - if your best shell suit falls against the bare bulb, you have ignition! Make sure those carpets are refitted properly children!

I am thinking about making a small reflector / protector out of a used pie container foil... of which I have an unending supply.

likewise... have the minor issue of two nicely rusted screws holding it in place..

when I changed mine I had to drill one of the screws out - the other one I managed to get mole grips on from inside the boot and get it out most of the way, till I could get the mole grips on the outside. My lens was cracked anyway so I didn't care if I broke it. Do NOT try this if you want to put the lens back!

exactly what happened to Ted with his S4 - nice lot of smoke coming from the boot and caused by this. Not good.

How dare you suggest that our illustrious leader wears shell suits!

I'm sure it was a fine silk cravat or perhaps a pair of socks knitted by italian nubile maidens using the finest spider-web-thin yarns...
