My recently bought S3 has driven me to distraction with this one. It will start and tickover O.K. but the engine tries to die when you move off. As soon as I come to the first 'T' junction it usually dies when I try to move-off again and it is a an absolute 'pig' [I'm being polite] to restart. So far the attentions of 3 garages [including a Ford main dealer], a set of plugs, a new coil, and a new distributor have alleviated, but failed to cure, this problem. It seems to be temperature related and became apparent again on a frosty morning - just when I thought it was cured. Once warmed-up it runs fine. Any thoughts out there before I revert to a 944 again?

I am just about to service my S3C and if that does not improve things then I shall be booking the S in at Austec for a full ECU job !..

Hi there,

Before you go down the more costly ecu route it is probably worth giving the idle speed control valve a good clean. Take it off and give the piston inside a good clean with carb cleaner. Also worth giving the contacts on the various sensors a good clean with electrical contact cleaner. Won't cost you much and a can of each is also a good investment with a TVR! Also give a good spray, as directed on the can, of carb cleaner up the air intake. I'm not saying that this will cure your problems but it won't do any harm either. Hope you get it fixed soon.

All the best
