Just out of interest, how much do people reckon I could get for my S3 + a set of S1 wheels?

£7k tops?

seem to remember Teds S4 was up for £6k and didn't initially get much interest...

At the end of the day - as with all purchases - its worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it - you may get lucky - I guess its easier to sell in the early summer months too

Your not seriously thinking of selling are you?

Does that mean it only has a 4" ride height?

Just toying with the idea. Have had 4-5" of snow recently and as I have no garage, getting to work has been a nightmare. My Leven cover was frozen to my car this morning and I had to spend a long time chipping ice off my driveway with a trowel(no shovel/spade) so I could get out. Fuel economy is also a bit of a nightmare.

All the problems are now fixed. Which is good.

I am considering switching to somthing with better fuel economy.

If I could afford the "Full Podie" then I wouldn't sell.

Chris

you will miss it if you sell it - believe me on this one.

Buy a £500 heap to use during this weather and leave the S3 hibernating under the cover

Wildfire, you were so keen at the start, despite stretching the coffers to fulfill your dream. To be fair you've had a tougher time than most, and you shouldn't expect that every year. If we all are supposed to have a pile of problems, I'm gonna get a sh1tload this year, because my first year was perfect!

You haven't had a full summer with the S yet - give it till then at least. When you've had a few hot days laughing at the sweatboxes as you overtake in a glorious roar (ahem, sorry, got carried away!) you will re-think this selling malarchy - promise!

As already said, get a hack for the winter and enjoy the summer - wait a minute, haven't you got a shed full of Minis? (not that I'm suggesting they're hacks... oh all right, maybe I am)

Now go and wash your mouth out with soap, and let's not hear the 'selling' word again

Unfortunately the minis are even more unreliable than the TVR. The 1 litres engine only lasts 30, 000 miles before it knackers the Piston Rings. Also does 70mph at around 4500 rpm in 4th.

The S is worth more than the TVR and is kinda a family thing. Sort of sentimental value as the previous owner and my father bought their minis at the same time, so sell is a no go. Insurace for that is also a crazy amount £350 for 1500 miles.

I'm hoping things will get better, but every month seems to bring more problems. I have jsut bust my galsses last night so the "Get an ACT SS exhaust fund will now have to be spent on them." They were the flexy ones as well!!

Things have hit the point where I have to make a tank of petrol last 2 weeks. My record is 2 weeks and 2 days. If I could afford a general hack then I would, but it all must be saved for insurance. Just doesn't seem to be much enjoyment with it in relation to the cost.

I am unfortunately doing the terrible thing and considering defecting to the Jap camp, due to money. Before anybody thinks cheap g*t, yes I am. But in April it is getting a full respray in Acrylic 2 pack, not cellulose. As well as a full waxoyl. Which will cost me around £100 or the lot.

I assume you mean £1000,if so then I think your barking! The respray can wait and you can waxoyl the chasis yourself .........pull yourself together man and stick with it !

No, £100. Ok maybe £150. Not £1000. £20 for Waxoyl and £80 - £100 for paint. Some Faraclea, so 3M Glazew and P2000 I will do it myself. The benefits of your father having a large compressor and infa red heat lamp and nice spray gun, and spraying facilities.

Have been spraying cars for about 5 years now. Did my mini every year for 4 years years ago and my brothers last year. Took me a month to do the mini, but I changed the colour and so had to do all the interior.

But I reckon the rubbing down and prep will take a day or so. Spraying 2-3 days, then 2-3 days to cure, the 2 days to polish off. Sorted. Full 2 Pack respray for a reasonable price. Nice and shiney. Then some coats of Autoglym, maybe Diamond Brite if I can get some and it won't affect the paint, ie Shellac. Then Sorted.

This is very handy when I get a scratch or somthing on one of the cars.

I'm a big believer in learniing to do it for yourself rather than pay someone to do it.

Also have a waxoyl gun for the compressor.

How about selling the S3, and buying an older s1/2. These can be had in a good state for $4500. Use the spare to buy a diesel fiesta and a warm coat for the S.

Then there is always a good taimar or 3000M, even have a roof to keep the cold out

No, doesn't really help as I'll have to pay out on 2 sets of insurance/road tax. Which only prolongs the amount of time I can have a TVR for. Eventually I'd have to do the same thing.

I shall have to see what happens in the next few months.

I wanted to respray my mini when I first got it as it was a wreck, but couldn't afford the best part of a grand. So my father and I got a decent spray gun and taught ourselves to do it. But we did have help. One of his mates is one of the world's best Alfa Romeo retorers, so Dad did a few weeks at his shop helping him out. My father could already do bodywork before this.

The main problem I think I'll encounter with spraying an S is that as the car is quite old, the paint won't quite match up and I'm not too sure how to blend the colours. That's why I'll be doing a full respray rather than just the bonnet, boot and doors.

This is generally why I don't offer to fix up scratches and key marks on other peoples car. Also there is a time constraint. I have to take holidays off work to do it as I have to go to Kenley to do the spraying.

We'll see how mine turns out first and then maybe I might be up for a couple of other jobs. I wouldn't want to unleash my spray gun on someone elses's pride and joy, without being totally sure I could do it first.
