Now as a lot of people know I am not one for paying for work to be done as I would rather learn to do it myself, but upholstery is not one of my skills, and I think I'd be pretty terrible at it anyhow. But I want to fit bigger speakers to the doors of my car without cutting away the albma/fake leather stuff.
Ease? Anybody done it? Now with the mini I just took a jigsaw to the rear shelf an bob's your uncle, but I can't do this with the door trim.
This will be part of my intensive 2 week restoration in April. Plus the Minidisc and 10 Disc changer out of my mini. Maybe the 12" Rockford Fosgate sub and Sound stream amp my ba a little too much.

Hi there,
When I've done this before I've made up a circle template that the speaker will fit in leaving enough space to mount screws around the outside. I then placed circle on the door and cut around the outside with a stanley knife to remove leather. You can then either use a jigsaw or coping saw to cut the material underneath to the same size as the leather. One thing I would recommend is gluing the leather down round the hole if it is not already stuck down. Stops it rucking up. Hope this was of some help,

The leather is trimmed and stuck to the inside of the door lining grp. Unstick the leather , cut the new hole carefully from the inside of the lining panel, re-trim the leather to the new hole and glue back. Depending on the speaker size you may need to alter the cutout on the inside of the door itself too.

Not yet, but I do want some different speakers in it for the time being. Am considering options.
Someone said they got an old ex army diesel landrover, for winter and general hacking. Considering getting one of these and fixing it up. But have to see about insurance/cost/economy.

Good plan.. my Series 2A petrol costs:
Insurance: £97 a year
Cost: £1000 to buy.. £100 a year tops on servicing
Economy: about 20 to the gallon on a good day, but diesils will do more like 30.
Cheers,
Matt
